2008 Boys Fusion
2008 Boys Fusion improved to 5-0 with a 7-1 win on the road against Edgemont Riders. Starting forwards Jack Zhunio, Kieran Degen and Julian Patino set the tone early by controlling possession and moving the ball at an aggressive pace. Jezrael Panama put the first point on the board, when he took control of a Rider goal kick and knocked it in. A few minutes later, Justin Paute scored off a well-placed corner kick from Zhunio. Zhunio scored next, thanks to an assist from Pierce Davis. Panama scored his second of the game, and third of the season, on an assist from Davis. The first half closed with a goal from Ian Papadopoulos with Aiden Lee contributing the assist. In the second half, Davis scored on a breakaway, booting in the ball from a distance. A few minutes later, he scored again on a penalty kick.
Dominant defense, particularly by Edwin Dutan, Raul Socualya, Dylan Pasato and Dylan Largo minimized the opportunities by the Riders to mobilize their offense. Team captain Dutan was a wall which the Riders simply could not get past. Fusion took numerous additional shots on goal which Riders' goalie was able to block, including one penalty kick by Socualya late in the second half. Fusion goalies Davis, Paute and Papadopoulos each blocked several attempts, and only let in one score midway through the second half on a quick defensive press.
Coach George Papadopoulos was pleased with his team's overall effort and ability to bring pressure. Fusion next plays in Chappaqua against the Tigers on October 22.
2007 Girls Blaze
On Sunday, the team met the New Rochelle Wildfires for what would be a fast-paced match up. The Blaze responded with more coordinated play, improved passing and the steady support of a formidable defense. It was a scoreless first half, as Gabby Disney, Kayla McGuigan and others cleared the ball quickly and forced much of the play down field. Lizzie Molina, with several wide plays down the line, had fantastic placement with her crosses. Penny McVey and Michayla Benuscak fought hard for the ball and had several great passes and Meghan O'Hanlon stood strong against several larger opponents. We had an impressive combination in Ellie Fox and Cassie Junge, and Emily Aridas, in goal, was always at the ready and made several saves.
Early in second half, with an assist from Juliana Marvin, Gemma Fante scored the first goal. Blaze 1-0. The second and final goal was by Julissa Casiano, with assistance from Lizzie Molina and Gemma Fante. The increased communication and strong passing game served the Blaze well, and the final score was a 2-0 Blaze win. Great job, girls! Next up: The Blaze will meet the Eastchester Red Dragons on Sunday.
2002 Girls Mustangs
Returned to their winning ways against the Bronx Shooting Stars 6-2 despite playing short handed from multiple injuries. Maya Weitzen had a big day earning 3 assists and scored with a corner kick that she bent into the net. Talia Fante led scorers with two goals. Juliana Largess, Ariana Vizcaino, and Julia Costa each added scores as well. Julia has scored in back to back games. Alicia Carvalho-Evans, from the younger Strikers team, graciously volunteered to play keeper the first half as the Mustangs only had 10 players otherwise. In the second half the Mustangs played with a 1 player disadvantage. The visitors managed two goals off questionable fouls leading to free kicks. After the first half of the season the Mustangs are tied for second place in division 1 and have a show-down with co-second place Rye on Sunday.
