The club has grown to 17 teams with 5 earning division championships in the Westchester Youth Soccer League, 10 teams being promoted to higher divisions, and 3 teams winning first place at the Somers Fall Classic Tournament. With many teams finishing a week ago only 8 teams had league games remaining and 5 teams participated in the Somers’ tournament. Below are the game reports provided by club volunteers from this last weekend of soccer.

Coached by Joe Block and Sven Armster finished up their final game of the season Sunday against a very physical Scarsdale team at Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry. The Comets started out slowly most of them with their winter jackets compressed under their soccer uniforms as it was quite cold and windy. Scarsdale took advantage of this with a quick goal and almost another if it wasn't for an excellent save by Samantha Mendieta. The Red Comets defense of Corina Armster, Kimbrel Molina and Jhoselyn Pugo did an excellent job of regrouping and pushing the ball back towards Scarsdale's side for the remainder of the half. Midway through the half Abigail Church dribbled down the right side as most of the Scarsdale team followed. As the two teams got bunched up in the corner, Jhoselyn Pugo snuck forward to the 18 and when the ball came spitting out across the field she connected with a nice shot into the upper left corner of the net. Just before the half Kate Livingston dribbled up field delivering it to Samantha Marvin who raced by the Scarsdale defense for the Red Comets second goal. The Red Comets continued to control the game in the second half with Abigayle Maceyak scoring two more goals and strong defensive work from Abigail Church, Greta Wuerffel and Mia Martinez in goal. The final score was Red Comets 4 and Scarsdale 1. The Red Comets finished their season with 7 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses and in second place and will likely be promoted to the Gold division.

Ed Greenberg’s boys finished their first season last week and are Maroon Division champions. They did so well they may be promoted up two divisions.

2007 Boys Dutchmen

After winning the Purple division last week the Dutchmen closed out the fall season at the Somers Fall Classic Tournament. The boys played four games and won all of them, making them tournament champs. The boys were happy to receive the first place trophies. The team thanks the Fall Classic organizers for running a great tournament and is looking forward to the spring season.

2007 Boys Dynamo

Finished their season last week.

2007 Girls Blaze

For the final game of the fall season, Blaze met Manhattan Lyon in Randall's Island. Wind was a major influence in the play of the fast-paced game and both teams managed well. These very-well matched teams moved quickly and pushed the girls to bring their best play and work hard. There were many shots on goal, at both ends of the field. Thanks, Emily Aridas, for great coverage! Parents were loud and animated in support. Despite the great Blaze defense, Manhattan Lyon scored and it was 1-0 at the half. Blaze came out strong in the second half, and Gemma Fanta scored to tie, now 1-1. With some impressive teamwork, the Blaze pushed through the half, and Zoey Murphy placed the final goal. In the end, the Blaze defense kept Lyon at bay and a few well executed plays from the offense decided this 2-1 game.

It was an impressive Fall season for the Blaze. Saturday was an undefeated win at the Somers Fall Classic and Sunday's final game brings the Blaze to 8-0-1 (W/L/T) record. The Blaze won the Blue division and will be promoted to the elite White/Second division. Thanks to coaches John Sutherland and Howard Allen, and to all the Blaze girls for a great fall.

2006 Girls Storm

In conditions better suited for The Iditarod, the Storm bested the Mamaroneck Wildcats by the score 5-0. Despite the cold, blustery weather, the Storm showed up ready to run and kept offensive pressure on the opponents from Mamaroneck throughout the contest. Co-captains #5 Ashley Richardson and #9 Siiri Lipping led a balanced attack in the first half with one goal a piece. Striker #8 Emily Orellana also knocked in a shot midway through the first period to stake the Storm to a 3-0 halftime lead. The second half brought more of the same pressure on the Mamaroneck defense and keeper, with #12 Katie Andruss ignoring the conditions to take control at the offensive end. The Storm found the net two more times on another shot by Orellana and a final score by #4 Eva Bertiz. After the 5-0 win, the Storm finished the fall season with a record of 5-2-3 (W-L-T). Last week, the Storm fought to an exciting 3-3- tie against the Rye Brook team that had beaten them earlier in the season. This earned the girls second place in division 5 and likely promotion to division 4. The girls are coached by Kevin Richardson, Thomas Lipping and Tom Andruss.

2006 Boys Warriors

Finished last week and earned second place honors this week at the Fall Classic Tournament in Somers.

2006 Boys Firebolts

Won division 6 last week and came in third place in the Somers Fall Classic. They look forward to promotion to either division 5 or maybe 4 in the spring.

2005 Boys Legends

After winning division 3 last week the U12B Legends won their division at the Somers Fall Classic, beating Mount Kisco in the opener 4-0, being held to a 0-0 tie with Ossining, prevailing over North Salem 5-0 and pulling away from Somers 4-0 at the end. The boys joyously celebrated the win, the parents bathed in the sunshine, and the coaches took particular satisfaction from the tournament shut-out. A fine day out for all!

2005 Girls Cyclones

Defeated Yonkers 1-0 by forfeit securing 3rd place in the high quality divison 3.

2004 Boys Argentina

Finished their season last week.

2004 Boys River Titans

Played Sunday against Harrison. This was the last battle for the undefeated Titans who had a challenging ten game season. Throughout the intense competition, the Titans controlled and dominated possession and field play, yet came up short, with a score of 5-2. The Titans finished in second place in division 5 and will likely be promoted to competitive division 4.

2004 Girls Hurricane

Lost their first game in the past 6 contests to top ranked Chappaqua 4-5 but finished in the top half of the standings in division 4. The Hurricane is clearly on the rise.

2003 Girls Strikers

Had a difficult game against the second place team from Port Chester. In the first half the Stikers, with the wind to their backs, had the better of the play. The attack led by Melanie, Michelle, Caroline & Emma S-M had more shots on goal than their opponents, but the half ended 1-1. Emma C. made the goal for the Strikers with a shot to the far end past the outreached goalkeeper. The wind picked up for the second half and the Strikers had to fight against the wind and an aggressive opponent. The defense lead by Grace & Muriel, Nataly, Asja & Kaitlyn held up against almost all their attacks except a deflection off one of our defenders that was out of reach of goalkeeper Alicia. Game ended in a 1-2 loss. The Strikers finished a strong fall in 3rd place in division 4. Sunday the Strikers play in a tournament at The Soccer Coliseum in Teaneck, NJ.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Finished the season last week and earned 3rd place in top division 1.

2002 Boys Los Gauchos

Wrapped up a great Fall 2016 season by finishing 2nd place in division 3 with a dominating victory over Scarsdale Chelsea, 8-3. Hat trick from Jack Taylor, goals from Franklin Pena, Gabriel Lewis, Derek Laboy & Jhonatan Yunga sealed the win.

Wonderful performance over all as the team completed nearly 500 passes. Midfield play contributed to the victory as Alex Searle, Dylan Smith, Victor Ribeiro, Billy Riccardi, Jhonatan Yunga and Mateo Lewis dominated throughout. Three guest players from the younger SHFC U13 Argentina squad had to help out in this cold day and they contributed admirably. The team also recognized the tremendous play and dedication of a few individuals from the team. Team MVPs Mateo, Franklin, Rene, Paul and Jhonatan. Excellence of play: Ethan, Ryan, Jack, Dylan and Peter.
