After a well-earned break for the Columbus Day weekend, the young members of Sleepy Hollow Football Club returned to the field on a cold windy Sunday October 19th. The club continued its success on the field winning 7 games losing 4 and tying 1. The overall record is now 38-17-10. Below are game recaps provided by the all-volunteer coaches:
Blustery fall winds did not deter the girls under age 9 Magic from staging another strong effort against the Larchmont Yellow Tigers. The game was competitively matched deep into the second half at 2-1, but the Magic broke through with three additional goals that led to the 5-1 win. The Magic, coached by Mac McLaurin, Tom Andruss and Steve Lieberman, were paced by Emily Orellana who connected on three shots. Anastasia Mazon and Natalie Rypka each found the back of the net as well. Co-captain’s Christine Kern and Amy Torres shared strong performances in goal and midfield positions. Next week the Magic take on the New Rochelle Wildfires at Washington Irving School at 12:00pm on Sunday.
The under age 9 boys Sentinels won a decisive 5-1 victory vs the Harrison Rockets. They next have games Saturday and Sunday the 25th and 26th against the Rockland Raptors at Washington Irving at 2:15 and then away against the Larchmont Yellow Lightning.

The under age 9 boys Warriors faced their toughest opponent so far as the Edgemont Blue Orcas came to Washington Irving. The Orca’s defense was hard to break through and the Warriors went down 1-0 in the first quarter off a penalty kick. Not long after Callum Gallagher equalized the score with a breakaway run. The Orcas pushed hard but could not get past the Warriors defense until an unlucky goal kick from the Warriors was picked up by the Orcas and put the score 2-1 in the away teams advantage. With about 5 minutes left to go the game was equalized again with a great run down the left hand side by Leo Jercinovic getting the ball inside the penalty area resulting in Callum Gallagher finding the net to finish the game with a 2-2 draw. After a few home games in a row The Warriors now hit the road to take on the Mamaroneck Blue Panthers.
The under age 10 girls Red Angels captained this week by Thalia Tsilibes, played a great game winning 4-0 against the New Rochelle Starz. The Red Angels played a complete game and were led by two goals from Isabella Murphy, one from Angie Santos and another by Samuella Schroeder. Collectively the team continues to show overall progress and next plays at the Somers Mavericks on October 26th.

The Legends under age 10 boys home game against Yonkers proved again why soccer is the most exciting game in the world! In the first half the keeper Kenneth Suqui and defense of Kieran O’Sullivan, Adrian Rodriguez and Kyan Aguilera playing sweeper, shut out a very strong opposition and the Legends scored on a through ball and quick finish from Jai Weitzen. The 2nd half saw Max Matailo make the score 2-0, before a crazy last 10 minutes saw Yonkers equalize, Legends regain the lead, Yonkers equalize and then Yonkers win on the last kick of the game. Next game is away at Barcelona! (The Rye version).
The under age 11 girls Strikers maintained their undefeated record, with a 2-1 win over the Rye Rowdies. Wind gusts of 25 mph affected the game. Arriana Vizcanio and Shennah Preble had some good shots forcing the Rye Keeper to make tough saves. Finally Sabrina Conrad broke the tie with a cracking shot off her left foot. Rye was more aggressive in the second half scoring off a free kick. The Strikers continued to press with the attack lead by Juliana Largess, Michelle Quispe and Dylan Zednik. Finally Dylan had a wonderful curving shot from a difficult angle on the outside of her right foot that found it’s way past the near post into the back of the net. The defense was held strong by Grace Vacca, Daphne Banino, Annalieka Mets and Keira McNally and lead by the goalkeepers Alicia Carvalho-Evans and Olivia Hillie. Next week the Strikers play their rivals the Mt Pleasant Red Hot Chili Peppers at Valhalla HS.

The lone goal scored by the Swarm was a floating, wind carried ball that just got in the goal under the crossbar.
