Below are game and tournament updates provided by the coaches.
U9 Girls – Blaze
The Blaze defeated Rye Havoc 2-0 to finish the season undefeated at 9-0-1. The team won some close games, but overall the girls scored 29 goals versus just 3 against.
A 1st half shot from Gabby Disney at the top of the box was painfully blocked by a defender, but Ashley Richardson continued pursuit for the team’s first goal. In the 2nd half, no Havoc player stood in front of a Disney free kick (for good reason) from right outside the box to put the team up 2-0. When not in goal, Michayla Benuscak helped control the middle and keep Blaze possession.
Saturday, the Blaze tied for 2nd in the Somer’s Fall Classic with a 2-1-1 record. The team competed with clubs from the higher divisions and all games were within one goal. Scoring was well distributed with goals by Ellie Fox, Zoey Murphy, Julissa Casiano and Juliana Marvin. There was great defense from Siiri Lipping and Elsa Block. Constant offensive pressure came from Kayla McGuigan and Megan O’Hanlon.
The team will practice this winter in preparation of moving up a division in the spring.
U10 Girls – Magic
The SHFC Magic wrapped their fall campaign with a tough loss to the New York Rush Patriots by the score 3-0. Led by co-captains #8 Sophia McLaurin and #9 Katie Andruss, the Magic gave a terrific, energetic effort but just could not break through a tough defense. In a very equally-matched first half, the Magic were able to make a few runs into the opponent’s territory led by center #14 Anastasia Mazon and winger #11 Talia Lieberman. After several solid saves by goalie #2 Amy Torres the Magic gave up a score on a blast into the left side of the net. Then just before the whistle, the Patriots got a second goal past the Magic defense. The game went to the half at 2-0 for the home Patriots. In the second half, #3 Emily Orellana took over on offense and pushed the ball deep into the opponent’s end, however a tough defense was able to turn back the Magic’s advances. Goalie #7 Sasha Grose was excellent in the net for the Magic in the second half making several nice saves and punting the ball back to midfield. One last score past the Magic defenders ended the game at 3-0.
U10 Boys – Warriors
With 3 wins and a tie the U10 Warriors won the Somers Fall Classic Tournament. A terrific all around effort by a great group of boys finished off a fun season. The boys will be busy enjoying Turkey over the Thanksgiving break, but they look forward to getting back to school and hitting the books.
U11 Girls – Cyclones
The U11 G Cyclones completed a successful fall season, with a 3-2 victory over the Mt Pleasant Gunners. The victory gave the Cyclones an 8-2 record and clinched 1st place in the 11G 4th Division for the fall season. The Cyclones fell behind 0-1 in the first half, but stormed back to score 3 goals. Angie Santos scored 2 goals and Thalia Tsilibes scored one. The team again had terrific defensive play from Julia Schroeder and the goalies.
In addition to the divisional game, the Cyclones played in the Somers Fall Classic tournament on Saturday, finishing in second place. The Cyclones finished 2-1-1, losing a very competitive game against the host Somers, the top team in the 11G 3rd Division.
The season was a terrific success, with the team improving week to week, and creating great relationships. The team will work hard in the winter and look forward to the Spring season.
U11 Boys – Legends
U11 B Legends finished off a terrific season with a 6-2 away win over 2nd placed Manhattan Toros. Highlights included some excellent defending from Massimo, Kieran, Justin and Julian and nice through balls and thoughtful finishing by mid-field and forwards. Overall the Legends won all 10 games with 55 goals scored and just 12 conceded and the team celebrated with Victory Doughnuts after a season of real fruit snacks. The team, parents and coaches are also proud of getting a (highly unusual) Perfect 6 for Sporting behavior for the season showing that they achieved the results in a very sporting fashion. The boys are signed up for Chelsea Piers CT so to continue developing as they prepare for National Games in July 2016.
U12 Boys – River Titans
The U-12/Boys River Titans were coached this season by- Scott Burnett , Colin Gallagher and Pepe Monteforte. The season proved to be incredibly successful! All The Titan players improved their game and showed great sportsmanship! The Titans domination of their division put them in first place! With hard work and talent the Titans capped off their season by winning The Somers Fall Classic Tournament this past weekend!!!
The River Titans are Zachary Burnett, Sean Gallagher, Andres Illescas, James Jaillite, Mathew Lopez, Griffin McLaurin, Oliver Monteforte, Victor Ribereiro, Carlo Ricchiuti, Christian Saquipay, Todd Smith, and Sean Wozniak
U13 Girls – Mustangs
The U13 Girls Mustangs had a busy weekend starting Saturday indoors at Chelsea Piers CT. They faced the top Division 1 WYSL team Portchester that also competes in the premier league. The girls played well, had a 1-0 half time lead, and earned a 2-2 draw off goals from Britany Alban and Julia Costa.
Sunday was the main event, however, as the girls were playing for the Division 3 title at Hackley field. The Mustangs looked the part of champions and saved their best performance for last by outplaying a well-coached Greenburgh team and winning 2-0. Britany Alban and Sophie Sylves-Berry both scored off assists from Talia Fante. Maya Weitzen controlled the game from her center midfield spot while Sam Livingston and Caroline Grimes took care of the outside. With injured Lily Rodriguez cheering from the sidelines her fellow forwards Juliana Largess, Isabella Chambers, and Shennah Preble were relentless. The defense of Annie Dineen, Maddy Navin, Emma Clarke, and Catherine Grimes earned their 6th shutout out of 10 games. Captain Carolina Lopez proved why she is the top keeper in the division with two crowd pleasing breakaway/collision stops.
The Mustangs won the scoring and defensive title with 25 goals scored and only 3 allowed. They are division 3 champions and will be promoted to the elite Second Division.
U14 Girls – Horsemen
The U14 Girls SHFC Horsemen concluded a very successful fall campaign this past Sunday at Hackley Field. Starting the day in first place in their division, The Horsemen needed a win to keep pace with the second place Rye Rattlers. Striker Anabel Ives provided the margin of victory, calmly slotting home a breakaway late in the first half. The team played a solid scoreless second half to seal the win and the division title.
The Horsemen finished the fall season with an 8-0-2 record scoring 22 goals while only allowing four.
