The Blaze went out to a fast start against the Scarsdale Spartak and struck for five first half goals en route to a 5-0 victory. The scoring effort was widespread with Juliana Marvin, Zoey Murphy (2), Julissa Casiano and Ashley Richardson all finding the back of the net. The team’s aggressive approach dominated play and kept pressure on the Spartak throughout the game.
The team continues to rotate girls to all positions, including goalie where none of the players have prior experience. This week, Kayla McGuigan and Juliana Marvin combined for the shutout.
The Blaze return home to play the North Salem Strikers at noon on Sunday.
U0 Boys – Dutchman
The Dutchmen arrived at Van Tassel Park ready for a tough game against FC Somers and came away with a 2-0 victory to improve their record to 3-0. The game was tight and competitive throughout. In the first half, the Dutchmen dominated possession but had few opportunities to score until Ares Economides slid one past the Somers goalie. Somers came out determined in the second half and spent much time in our half of the field, but the Dutchmen defense held strong and goalies Liam Grimes and Lando Leon made a number of athletic saves (along with a little self-defense) to preserve the shutout. Ares scored a second goal in the second half and pushed in a third just after the final whistle. The Dutchmen are so far showing unselfish team play and strong sportsmanship.
U10 Girls – Magic
The SHFC Magic fell to Munay Ossining by the score of 2-1 at Nelson Park in Ossining. Led by co-captains #8 Sophia McLaurin and #11 Talia Lieberman the Magic played one of their best all-around games. Ossining got on the board first on a questionable score by a player charging on a goal kick. Minutes later, #3 Emily Orellana netted the equalizer for the Magic to cap an aggressive push by the forwards including #10 Nicolette Cioffi and #14 Anastasia Mazon. The game entered the half knotted at 1-1. Despite tenacious defensive efforts by #7 Sasha Grose and #6 Shea Bertolacci throughout the second period, and a spectacular save by goalie #2 Amy Torres, Ossining found the net for the winning score with only minutes left. Next week, the Magic return home for a contest against Greenburgh United Storm.
U10 Boys – Warriors
Field trip over the Tappan Zee Bridge brought the U10B Warriors to Chestnut Ridge to face East Ramapo Warriors. Randall Nugra opened the scoring fairly early on with some nice dribbling through Ramapo defense and slotted it away. He claimed his second not long after with an assist from Hugo Jercinovic. Declan McCarthy claimed a third for the team just before halftime. Strong defense from Callum Gallagher, Leo Jercinovic and Sebastian Hernandez kept the score line low in the first half along with some great saves by keeper Tucker Junge. Shortly in the second half Ramapo got one back with perfect high ball towards top right of the net. RUFC retaliated with Callum Gallagher launching a rocket free kick up the field and Tucker Junge hit the afterburner engines to get on it and slotted a nifty shot through the keeper’s leg to make it 4-1. Two unfortunate own goals from deflections in the last 10mins sent the home crowd into a frenzy looking for the comeback win. A strong regrouping in defense and midfield held off any further attacks along with some additional great saves by second half keeper Eli Krajovan. The final whistle blew for an RUFC Warriors win 4-3. The Warriors are 2-1-0 after 3 games.
U11 Girls – Cyclones
On Sunday, the Cyclones improved to 3-0, winning 5-1 against the Briarcliff Blaze. Isabelle Murphy scored two goals while Samuella Schroeder (left foot), Thalia Tsilibes and Emma Behrens each scored a goal. The defensive play was again terrific. The Cyclones play next Sunday, October 4th at Edgemont.
U11 Boys – Legends
The Legends were held to a 0-0 tie in the first half of their game Saturday versus the Rivertown Rebels but scored three without reply in the 2nd. The defense (Brandon, Massimo, Kieran, Hernan, Justin, Julian and Nikhil) was strong and whatever went through was mopped up by keepers Kenneth and Adrian. Kenneth scored from an interception and a low drive: then a passing sequence of Kyan, Kenneth, Kyan, Kenneth, Jai, with Kieran finishing top far corner. Max completed the scoring with a low drive to the far corner. Next week is away to Manhattan Valencia.
U12 Girls – Strikers
The Strikers played their first home game of the season against our longtime rivals Mt. Pleasant Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Strikers got off to a slow start giving up two unanswered goals. The coaching staff made some tactical changes to try and give the team more of an edge. The changes along with being down two goals give the girls motivation. Before halftime the Strikers were able to bring the deficit down to one goal. The goal was made by Melanie with an assist by Sabrina. The second half was a whole new game. The Strikers were hyped up from halftime talk and ready to bring the game to their rivals. Unfortunately ten minutes in to the second half we lost one of our fastest players, Daphne, who was playing most of the game with a sore ankle. She came off the pitch so upset that she couldn’t help her team anymore, but everyone knew she gave it her all! The Strikers continued to press the attack and were able to tie the game at two goals with a high shot again from Melanie, that was out of the reach of the visiting goalkeeper. Second half defense of Grace, Olivia and lead by co-captains Alicia (GK) and Abby held strong and didn’t give the visiting team many good scoring opportunities. The Strikers had a few more chances but were not lucky enough to find the back of the net for the winning goal! Final Whistle saw a fair result of 2-2 draw!
Next week the Strikers have their second home game against Mamaroneck United @ 2:00 PM.
U12 Boys – River Titans
The River Titans played away Sunday in Ardsley. The first half was a battle to see which team would strike first. What Ardsley didn’t recognize, was that due to illness -The Titans were playing down a player. The second half brought the Titans one additional player, the even sided game in the second half proved too much for our formidable opponents. The Titans won 2 -0. Goals were scored by Mathew Lopez and Carlo Ricchiuti.
U13 Girls – Mustangs
The SHFC Mustangs dismantled the Chappaqua Heat 6-0 on Saturday at Hackley field. Julia Costa earned MVP honors with two goals. Talia Fante matched Julia with two goals as well. Britany Alban and Juliana Largess finished scoring each with one goal as well as one assist. Caroline Grimes earned the third assist. The Mustang defense of Annie Dineen, Emma Clarke, Maddy Navin, and Catherine Grimes, with full time keeper Carolina Lopez earned their second straight shutout. The only goal allowed this season was off a penalty kick. The play of the game was made my Lily Rodriguez who managed to chase down the Chappaqua forward after a huge head start break way denying her an easy goal. The Mustangs next play in Byram Hills against the undefeated Castleford Gold. Castleford has yet to allow a goal this season. The Mustangs still sit on top of the standings because they scored 14 goals and only allowed 1 to date.
U14 Girls – Horsemen
The Horsemen defeated their sister RUFC club by the score of 1-0 last Sunday at Hackley School. Grace Morgan broke the deadlock late in the first half after the Lightning goalkeeper repeatedly kept the Horsemen off the scoreboard. The teams battled to a scoreless second half and the Horsemen notched their second win of the young season. Next up for the Horsemen is a trip to face the first-place North Salem Thunder.
