U9 Girls – Blaze
Gabby Disney came running a few minutes late and Coach John asked, “Where were you, McDonald’s?”
“No coach. We went to Wendy’s.”
So began the Blaze’s 1-0 victory over Rye Havoc.
The team kept the ball in Havoc territory most of the game - to the disappointment of goalies Kayla McGuigan and Zoey Murphy. The Blaze were denied many scoring chances near the crowed Havoc goal. Meghan O’Hanlon seemed to always find the center of the action and played her best game.
The lone goal came on a 1st half corner kick by Siiri Lipping that reached Ashley Richardson for a goal shot that was blocked, but not secured. Juliana Marvin charged forward and knocked in the winner.
The Blaze play Ossining next week.
U9 Boys - Firebolts
The Firebolts faced a tough Chappaqua Silver United team last Sunday.
Firebolts tried to get possession of the ball by putting pressure on their opponent’s defense.
With a good performance from Carlos Almonte and Alex Zhunio in defense and Julian Guzmán and Marlon Pacheco in midfield supporting our offense Brandon Arevalo after a great assist by Ollie González was able to score.
Good saves by Wolfgang Cook kept our goal clean.
After a fast throw in Ollie González scored the second goal.
In the second half we had opportunities to score but we didn’t.
The other team scored twice and the final score was 2-2.
Firebolts next game is against Yonkers Utd Rush Cyclones next Sunday at 1:15pm at Peabody Field.
U10 Girls – Magic
The SHFC Magic fell to the New York Rush Patriots at Peabody Field by the score of 2-0. On this blustery day speed was the key for the New York Rush Patriots. The visiting team scored on a breakaway just before the half on a shot off the left post that squeezed by Magic goalie #4 Christine Kern. Although the Magic had several shots on goal by co-captain #14 Anastasia Mazon in the opening period, they were not able to score and the game entered the half with the home team down 0-1. The second half opened with a fast goal by the NY Rush Patriots out of a scrum near the right goal post that dribbled over the goal line behind Magic goalie and co-captain #3 Emily Orellana. For a while, it seemed like the Magic would mount a comeback behind the energy of #6 Shea Bertolacci who was all over the field from her midfielder position. #8 Sophia McLaurin came back from an early injury to contribute a solid defensive effort, and #11 Talia Lieberman led the offensive charge with several runs up the left sideline. In the end, the Magic simply could not break through the solid Patriots defense. Next week the Magic take on the Rivertowns Comets at Losee Field.
U10 Boys – Warriors
The Warriors won 2-1 against sister team Rivertowns Utd Rapid. Rapids went ahead in the first minute with Warriors defense still sleeping. Hugo Jercinovic came on and stabilized defense in what is becoming precision style. Just before half time John Arnegger and Declan McCarthy hustled the ball into Rapids 6 yard box and Randall Nugra slotted it away. A free kick for Warriors outside the 18 yard box was taken by Randall Nugra who launched it high and it sailed into the top left hand corner for a stunning goal. A very tense second half saw Callum Gallagher make some incredible saves as keeper as Rapids continued to push ahead and dominate possession. Warriors are now 4-1-0 and face Larchmont Lightning next.
U11 Girls – Cyclones
On Sunday, the U11 Girls Rivertown United Cyclones improved to 5-0, winning 2-1 against the Mt. Pleasant Gunners. The Cyclones went behind 0-1 in the first half, but tied the game shortly before halftime with a left footed goal from Isabelle Murphy. In the second half, Thalia Tsilibes scored a goal in the last 10 minutes to provide a 2-1 victory. Ywomie Mota played terrific defense and goalie to help preserve the victory. The Cyclones next play on October 25th, at Eastchester against the Eastchester Breakers, a team we narrowly defeated 1-0 in week 1.
U11 Boys – Legends
U11B Legends have had a very successful and enjoyable 2 weeks! On Columbus Day they entered the FC Westchester tournament and played 4 games including 2 against Premier Division opponents. With stellar defense and goalkeeping they prevailed 1-0 in the opener against New Rochelle, a gritty 1-0 over a very talented Alba Black Eagles Team and then mounted a late comeback over FC Westchester – running out 3-1 winners. Last game was a relatively comfortable 5-0 over Briarcliff. Cue 13 very happy boys! This past Sunday they had a top of the table clash with Manhattan Toros and, in the end prevailed 4-0 with standout keeping from Brandon and Adrian forming the base for a sound defense and goals poached by Maximos (2), Hernan and Kyan.
U12 Girls – Strikers
U12G Strikers had a full weekend, Saturday they had their second game of the NY State Cup; playing home against Auburndale SC Panthers at Losee Field. The Panthers are the first place team in a higher division. The Strikers played a good game maintaining a good percentage of the possession. The girls were unlucky to give up three unanswered goals in the first half. The second half the Strikers had the better play forging an attack that had the visitors struggling to defend their lead. The Strikers were able to bring one goal back with a very well placed penalty kick by Abby. The team has consistently shown improvement throughout the season. Strikers lose 4-1.
Sunday the Strikers had their photo day followed by their second game of the weekend which was their league game. The game was again at Losee against a NYC team. The visitors didn’t have a full squad, so in a sporting manner we didn’t field our full team. The Strikers quickly opened the scoring with a well-placed shot by Abby. Abby was able to get her first hat-trick of the season. Sabrina was able to score a pair of goals and Melanie also made a goal to give the home team 6 goals. The defense lead by Alicia and Olivia as Goalkeepers with Grace, Michelle and Annalieka in defense kept the visitors to only one goal. Toward the end of the game the Strikers showed good passing skills to maintain possession without scoring goals as the league has a 6 goal differential mercy rule. Strikers win 6-1! Next week the Strikers have their last home game at Losee at 12:45 against Manhattan Spirit.
U12 Boys – River Titans
The River Titans played away Sunday against Yonkers. The blustery cold weather didn’t seem so bad, because The Titans were on fire Sunday! From the beginning to the end, the Titans dominated. The Titans won with a score of 8 - 3! Everyone played remarkably Sunday, with skill, composure and sportsmanship! A shout out to our goalie - Todd S. and all midfield and defense who maintained control of possession of the ball. Goals were scored by - Zach B. (3), Sean G. (2), Matt L. (2) and Carlo R. (1). Last - a very special shout out to Christin S. who had THREE incredibly great, unselfish and well executed assists! GO TITANS!!!!
U13 Girls – Mustangs
The Mustangs rebounded off their first loss of the season and defeated Greenburg United 2-0 at Macy Park. Keeper Carolina Lopez and defenders Annie Dineen, Emma Clarke, Maddy Navin, Samantha Livingston, and Sophie Sylves-Berry earned their 3rd shutout of the year. Lily Rodriguez scored first off an assist from Britany Alban and Shennah Preble scored her second goal of the season with the help of Maddy Navin. The Mustangs continue to lead the league in offense and are second in goals allowed. They face 3rd place Briarcliff Sunday at Briarcliff High School. With a win the Mustangs will likely be promoted to the elite division 2 as only the softer part of their schedule will remain.
U14 Girls – Horsemen
The U14 girls Horsemen traveled to a frigid Randall’s Island last Sunday and came away with a well-deserved 2-0 victory to solidify their hold on first place in their division.
The goals were scored by Margaret Ruhland Maus and Jessica Scott.
The Horsemen will play the Chappaqua Hurricanes this Sunday at Hackley School. Kickoff is 1:30pm
