2008 Girls Red Comets

It’s official. The three weeks between the Red Comets last game and the games this weekend did not result in the Red Comets having fresh legs. The Red Comets forgot some of the basics this past weekend and in general did not play as well as they had in accumulating a 3-0 record to start the season. On Saturday, they played the Edgemont Fireballs who jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Kate Livingston evened the score at 1-1. From there, simple mistakes led to easy goals and the Edgemont Blaze went on to win 5-1.

On Sunday, the Red Comets came out lethargic again and were down 2-0 at halftime. The second half, the Red Comets got their mojo back, dominated play, took many shots on goal, but couldn’t convert ending the game losing 2-0.

Coach Armster and Block were encouraged by the Red Comets second half Sunday that had them playing much more like their coaches and fans have come to expect.

2007 Girls Blaze

It was an intense battle this past Sunday as the Blaze took on the Scarsdale Dynamo. It was a match for two very skilled teams. Blaze hustled and made several attempts on goal and demonstrated some great teamwork. It's great to see the team anticipate, talk more, and execute more complex plays. We had a strong defense in Kayla McGuigan, Gabby Disney and Meghan O'Hanlon holding the line and plenty of coverage from Ellie Fox, Julissa Casiano, Cassie Junge and Lizzie Molina holding the front and mid. Gemma Fante showed some impressive crosses, one to Juliana Marvin who scored beautifully.

The hard work continued in the second half with a stressful penalty kick that was saved by Emily Aridas (whew!). After a Scarsdale goal, the team fought back harder. Two Blaze goals were quickly scored by Juliana Marvin and Gemma Fante.

The opponent's impressive keeper and a quick-paced running game challenged both teams. Fortunately, those Blaze girls have endurance! (Thank you coaches John Sutherland, Howard Allen, Annette O’Hanlon and Chris Junge!). It was a hard earned 3-1 finish. Next up the girls play Rye on Sunday, June 4.

2006 Girls Storm

The Storm defeated the Mt. Pleasant Lady Warriors 2-1 in a physical game to improve to 3-2-0 on the Spring season.

The Storm played its defense past midfield to increase offensive opportunities. The approach enabled the team to control the field, but the girls were stymied by all nine Warriors playing back on defense. A called push just outside the penalty box gave the Storm a direct free kick. Ashley Richardson surprised everyone with a beautiful untouched shot above the defensive wall into the top corner of the net.

The Warriors responded with several breakaway opportunities. All but one were stopped by a lonely Sophia McLaurin reversing or stalling the attack long enough for her Storm teammates to get back to help. Kate Andruss was effective in goal with four saves.

With the game tied 1-1 both sides increased their aggression in the 2nd Half. The Storm scored midway through the half when Emily Clayton charge the net to knock in a corner kick that rolled through the penalty box. Eva Bertiz made some key saves in goal and once punted the ball too far – it reached the opposing goalie. The one save that she did not have to make was when Anastasia Mazon stood strong in front of a direct free kick. After the ball struck her head and sailed over the net she said, “I’m ok” and finished the game.

2006 Boys Warriors

The Warriors put together a solid all-around performance to get by the Pelham Nifty Lions 4 – 2. Some nice passing combinations in the midfield and up front led to several breakaways and goals by Will (2), Luke and Nathan. The defense did their part anchored by Declan in the middle. Lange had another fine performance in net. The Warriors are 3 -3 with 3 games to go.

2005 Girls Cyclones

On Sunday, the U12 Cyclones Girls coached by Mike Levine, Nick Tsilibes and Tracey Koch lost to the John Jay Strikers 7-1. John Jay was a very talented team, showing great skill, teamwork and competitiveness. Thalia Tsilibes scored the goal for the Cyclones. The Cyclones next play on June 3rd and 4th.

2005 Boys Legends

U12 Boys Legends prevailed 6-5 in a see-saw game at Hackley against FC Transylvania. Highlights included FOUR through ball assists for Hernan, a beautiful 3rd man running goal from Justin and a flying near post headed goal from Adrian. The team is now up to 2nd place and playing some pretty ball.

2004 Boys River Titans

The Undefeated B 13-4 River Titans played home Sunday against team Castleford. The Titans played well - dominating possession and control of the game. The Titans peppered the Castleford goal throughout the game. Castleford had a tough time breaking through the brilliant Titan defense. Once again, our talented goalkeeper, was bored to tears... the score: 4-1 Titans!!

2004 Boys Argentina

Remain undefeated and untied, Won 6-0 away at Scarsdale. Argentina did not allow a single shot on goal and dominated the match from start to finish. Superb goals from Alex (2), Danny (2), David's fantastic header Goal and Will's wonderful move.

men of the match honors went to Braulin Peña and Daniel Tantsyura. Sebastian and Peter controlled the center. Next match they host undefeated Somers Vipers to decide the division title.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Avenged a 1-2 loss in the fall with a resounding 4-0 win against Riverdale United. Coach John Sutherland's Mustangs spent the winter working on possession style soccer and recently implemented a new 4-3-3 system while taking advice on how to get open in space from the girls varsity coach, Anthony Patierno. The work is paying off as the Mustangs constantly beat Riverdale's defense and completed 240 passes. Maya Weitzen teamed up with Abigail Oppenheim to feed Talia Fante for the first score. The same three girls teamed up for the second score but this time it was Maya to Talia to Abigail. Score 3 came off penetration by Juliana Largess that resulted in a direct kick foul out side of the box. Sharp shooter Talia Fante then scored from distance. With a 3-0 halftime lead the Mustangs played many girls in different positions including keeper Julia Costa at forward who had many scoring opportunities. The final goal was scored off a Britany Alban corner kick. Taking advice from "legendary" coach Fergus O'Sullivan, the Mustangs moved up their taller defenders Annie Dineen and Grace Ryan into the box. This paid off as Grace Ryan out positioned Riverdale and knocked in the fourth score. Remaining defenders Emma Clarke, Arianna Vizcaino, and keeper Carolina Lopez earned their third shutout of the season and have not allowed a goal on their home field. With back to back wins after starting the season with four ties and a forfeit, the Mustangs are now tied for third place in the top division. After the holiday break they take on North Salem who holds a 3 game win streak in the series.

2002 Boys Los Gauchos

Lost to Premier team FC Spring Valley despite outplaying, out-passing and out-shooting their opponent in front of a tough crowd. Very physical match throughout. Goals from Victor and Franklin. Los Gauchos had a dozen shots on goal from close range and were unable to capitalize. David, Billy and Paul were the standout players for Los Gauchos. Los Gauchos are 5-2. They next host Yorktown.
