Goalie Kayla McGuigan made several saves before a high ball got through with less than two minutes left in the 1st half. She was not happy.
McGuigan started middle forward in the 2nd and scored on a Juliana Marvin pass. She felt better. A few minutes later Kayla assisted Marvin for another goal and the Blaze led 2-1. That was the final score and improved the Blaze to 7-0-1 on the season.
It was the best effort of the season for the team. Some notable performances: Julissa Casiano pushing forward, Elsa Block controlling the ball in midfield, and Gabby Disney on defense.
U9 Boys – Dutchmen
The Dutchmen played host to FC Transylvania and came away with a decisive win to bring their record to 5-3. FC Transylvania scored first and the Dutchmen went into half time down 1-0. In the second half, the Dutchmen took over with four goals from four different players and won the game 4-1. The defense and goalkeeping was stout and repelled a number of strong attacks by Transylvania. Although the boys were excited by the win, they were gracious sportsmen to the end.
U10 Girls – Magic
The SHFC Magic were beaten by Munay Ossining by the score 0-3 at Losee Field in Tarrytown. On a sunny afternoon that was perfect for a soccer match the home team just could not get anything going on the offensive end. Led by co-captains #11 Talia Lieberman and #2 Amy Torres the Magic were back on their heels all afternoon. Despite intense defense by #10 Nicolette Cioffi and #7 Sasha Grose, Ossining managed ten shots on goal in the first half and connected on a couple of them to lead 2-nil at the break. The Magic came out quickly in the second period with some strong moves by #6 Shea Bertolacci, but were not able to get past the solid defense of the Ossining squad. The Magic had scoring tries by #12 Natalie Rypka and #3 Emily Orellana in the second half but neither was able to find the back of the net. A late score by Ossining made the final tally 0-3 for the visitors. Next week the Magic take on the Greenburgh Storm in Irvington.
U10 Boys – Warriors
They fought hard but the U10 Warriors fell to Edgemont Galacticos superior passing skills. Coming away with a 3-1 loss. Hugo Jercinovic, John Arnegger and Tucker Junge held off Edgemonts repeated attacks with persistent defense. While one goal slipped through in the first half, Randall Nugra muscled his way up the field and slotted one in to make it 1-1 at half time. Luke Wuerffel and Declan McCarthy made valiant efforts to stabilize the midfield but the Warriors couldn’t convert the chances created. Unfortunately Edgemont smashed another two very good goals in the back of the net to bank their win. The Win-Loss-Tie for the Warriors is now 4-2-2 as they face a formidable foe, FC Transylvania Barca, for their final game.
U11 Girls – Cyclones
On Sunday, the U11 Girls Cyclones lost a tough gave, 2-1 against the Briarcliff Blaze. Briarcliff went up 1-0 in the first half on a penalty shot and 2-0 on an early second half goal. The Cyclones scored a goal and took countless shots, but we’re only able to score one goal by Isabella Levine.
The Cyclones play next Sunday, November 15th at Peabody against the Edgemont.
U11 Boys – Legends
The SHFC Legends faced a tough opponent in FC Somers this past weekend. In the 1st half the Legends had a number of nifty runs and passing combinations and went up on their home town opponents 4-1. The 2nd half wasn’t as easy for the Legends. The teams went tit for tat and each notched 3 more goals to end the game 7-4 with a total of 6 different Legends finding the back of the net. The Legends are now 8 - 0 with an amazing 44 goals for and just 9 against.
