2008 Girls Red Comets

Some wins feel better than others (especially for the coaches). After last fall’s season, the second place Red Comets and the first place Pelham Gazelles moved up a division for the spring season. They met on Sunday for their only game of the spring. In the fall, the Red Comets tied the Pelham team once and then lost the second game. In their meeting this week, the Red Comets pulled out a fantastic win against this evenly matched rival.

The hero of the game for the Red Comets was Corina Armster. Armster has excellent ball skills and speed and has been a force for other teams to contend with all year. Against the Gazelles she had a break out game scoring both goals for the Red Comets. The first came on an excellent downfield kick by teammate Jhoselyn Pugo who created a break away that Armster delivered home for a goal. After the Gazelles evened the score at 1-1, halfway through the second half Armster picked up a loose ball in the box, moved to the right and shot. The ball bounced off a defender and Armster followed up with a shot over the goalie’s head for the winning goal.

The team, on a difficult hot day came out strong and overall shut down the Gazelles with a great defensive performance. Abigayle Maceyak played goalie the whole game and had a very solid performance. At 5-2-1, with one game to go, the Red Comets assured themselves of being one of the top teams in their division this spring.

2007 Girls Blaze

On Sunday, Blaze met the New Rochelle Wildfire in a challenging match up. While the Blaze demonstrated some teamwork and control of the ball, it was a well-executed game by the Wildfires who were able to take more shots on goal, and supported by a strong defense.

New Rochelle scored three in the first half, followed by two in second. The final goal was Blaze as Juliana Marvin landed a beautiful shot. The final score was 5-1.

It’s a first loss for this team, currently at 4-1-1 spring record. This final weekend of the Spring Season the Blaze will play Manhattan Lyon on Sunday at 3pm, at Hackley.

2006 Boys Warriors

This week the U-11B Warriors finished off their spring season with a convincing 5-0 win against the Yorktown Earthquakes. The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, getting behind the Earthquakes defense and scoring two quick goals in the first five minutes. The teams battled back and forth for the rest of the first half and the Warriors took a 2-0 lead into the break. In the second half, the Warriors kept up the pressure and displayed some nice teamwork in netting 3 more goals and maintaining a clean sheet. With the win, the Warriors brought their season record to 5-4, putting them in the top half of their division. Coaches Matt Weidner, Chris Junge and Todd Dorman were pleased with the team’s progress over the course of the season, and look forward to the team challenging for the division title in the fall.

2005 Boys Legends

U12B Legends couldn’t convert many early chances on Sunday at Hackley; Scarsdale could, and scored 3 well taken goals towards the end of the first half. The Legends fought back, scored twice, but couldn’t quite manage to get the equalizer. Legends are still in 2nd place but now have 3 teams within striking distance with one game to go. Nails may be bitten on the weekend!

2004 Boys River Titans

The B04 River Titans played at home Sunday against Port Chester. The game started off quickly with the Titans scoring the first goal, only to be followed by Port Chester tying it up . The Titans were prepared for a tough and physical game. The mid field and defense we're tested throughout the entire game, yet they persevered and did not allow another goal. The Titans went on to score another four goals for a final score of 5 - 1. The Titans remain # 1 in their division.

2004 Boys Argentina

Visited Rye for a mid-afternoon match on an old turf field. Temperatures reached 121 degrees under a scorching sun and extra water breaks were taken as a precaution.

Argentina won 6-0 with goals from Alex G. [3], Oliver, Sebastian and David. The team conpleted 300 passes and dominated throughout. Goalkeeping duties were shared by Gabriel, Sebastian and David.

The backline was outstanding again and only allowed one shot on goal by the opponent: Peter, Daniel, Braulin and Alex S. have been a model of consistency all season. This is Argentina's 6th shutout of the season and their 4th consecutive. Team clinched the division title last week and are 8-0 for the season. They play at Mount Pleasant Utd next Sunday and look to finish strong.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Last took on premier White Plains united and were crushed 0-5 in the fall. Since that time the Mustangs have worked on possession soccer and a new scheme to fare better against this talented passing team. Despite playing with 5 fewer subs, the local girls were up to the challenge. The Mustangs appeared to score first on a beautiful through ball to Talia Fante who faked out the keeper and scored. A young linesman convinced the head ref that Talia was offsides and the goal was subsequently negated. White Plains then scored off a miscommunication between the Mustangs' central defenders going right through the center of the defense for an easy score. The temperature was over 90 degrees with the artificial turf surface adding at least 5 more degrees but the girls hung tough. White Plains went up 0-2 when a hard shot bounced off the Mustang keeper's hands allowing the rebound score. The Mustangs answered when Juliana Largess ran down a ball to the right corner and sent it back to trailing Sophie Sylves-Berry. Sophie chipped it to Talia Fante who faked out the White Plains defender to create a shot and score. The Mustangs continued to press but fell short 1-2. Considering the controversial offside negation of a goal and the intense heat with a shallow bench, the coaches were pleased with the Mustang performance and proud of the effort on the field. The Mustangs finish the spring season Sunday against John Jay at Washington Irving. With a win the Mustangs will finish in the top half of the top division.

2002 Boys Los Gauchos

Lost their final match of the season away to Port Chester's Premier squad. Los Gauchos managed to out-pass and out-shoot their opponent and dominated possession throughout but defensive mistakes and some great goalkeeping by the opponent denied them a win.

SHFC Los Gauchos had a very successful Spring season, despite being an under-aged and under-sized squad they placed 3rd in a 10-team division at with a 6-3 record. Finishing 2nd in scoring and defending. Scoring over 40 goals and having the second fewest goals allowed despite an attacking playing philosophy. Los Gauchos averaged nearly 400 passes per match for the season.

Los Gauchos are coaches by Bill Julian and Luis Lewis. Captains Franklin Peña and Mateo Lewis led the team by example during training and matches. Players who excelled throughout a tough season were Paul Julian, Dylan Smith, Victor Ribeiro, Jack Taylor, David Amay, Kevin Peña, Jhonatan Yunga and Billy Riccardi.

The goalkeepers had an outstanding season as well, they are Rene Quinde and Diego Cuateco. The biggest reward this team earned is the praise of opposing coaches for the quality of play displayed each match.

A number of players will not be returning but Los Gauchos will welcome stronger and dedicated replacements as the team continues to improve and challenge for a title.
