Sleepy Hollow Football Club - Week 9 Game Recaps
The Sleepy Hollow Football Club had a busy weekend of soccer.

The U11 Strikers celebrate their victory at the WIZ of Oss!
Below are the Week 9 game updates prepared by the all-volunteer coaching crew of the Sleepy Hollow Football Club.
U9 Girls – Magic
The SHFC Magic got past the New York Rush Patriots by the score 4-2. The Magic notched their 3rd win of the season in a great team effort by all twelve players. Led by co-captains #11 Talia Lieberman and #8 Sophia McLaurin, the girls showed a resilient offensive effort as well as solid defensive and goalie play. #14 Anastasia Mazon opened the scoring with a goal midway through the first half. Then #10 Nicolette Cioffi added another goal just before the half. The New York Rush Patriots came out for the second half and got an early score to cut the lead to 2-1. The teams then traded goals with Nicolette Cioffi scoring again for the Magic. Late in the second half, #3 Emily Orellana capped the tally for Magic. Throughout the contest, goalies #2 Amy Torres, Anastasia Mazon and #4 Christine Kern made several nice saves to keep the opponent in check. Next week is the Magic’s final game of the season against a tough team from Scarsdale.

U9 Boys – Sentinels
The Sentinels played the Pelham Pythons on Saturday and found themselves tightly matched. The score at the half was 3-3 and the two teams continued to trade goals right up to the whistle ending the game. Unfortunately, the Sentinels were down by one with a final score of 6-7.
The Sentinels played the Rockland FC Raptors on Sunday. The score at the half was 1-1 and each team upped one shortly after the second half began. An unfortunate hand ball within the penalty box allowed a direct free kick by the Raptors. The Sentinels we’re bringing the ball in to tie the game again when the whistle blew, ending the game with the Sentinels down by one and a final score of 2-3. The Sentinels will play its last game at home against the FC Somersault Tuskers at 1:45pm next Sunday.
U9 Boys – Warriors
The Warriors finished strong with a 5-2 win against Edgemont Blue Orcas. Goals came from Declan McCarthy, Callum Gallagher (2), Roberto Molina and an Orca own goal with pressure from Sebastian Hernandez to assist. Will Dorman and Roberto Molina took up keeper gloves and had some huge saves keeping the goals against us low. Hugo Jercinovic, Tucker Junge and Luke Wuerffel made some crucial clearances in defense. Midfield action came sprucely from John Arnegger, Eli Krajovan and Leo Jercinovic. It was a true team effort, finished off with cupcakes and team photos! Coaches Colin Gallagher, Chris Junge and Todd Dorman extend their thanks to the Warriors parents for all their great participation this year.

U10 Girls – Red Angels
The Rivertown United Red Angels again played a close, exciting game winning 3-2. Isabelle Murphy scored two goals and Samuella Schroeder scored the third. The team again was anchored by strong defensive play.
The team closes out its season this Sunday at Losee against North Salem
U10 Boys – Legends
The Legends had two games this weekend to finish the season. On Saturday they played John Jay away, and scored a beautiful goal to start, with Javier crossing low to the near post and Max stretching to poke the ball past the keeper and then finish to an empty net. John Jay scored 2 nice goals on the break and then Javier equalized, tapping in a rebound off a Brandon drive from an angle that came down off the cross bar. The game kicked off at 9am which may have had something to do with a somewhat sleepy performance in the 2nd half as John Jay scored 2 without reply.
Sunday noon brought a showdown at Mount Pleasant, which became a shootout. Keepers Adrian and Brandon were terrific as were Defenders Massimo, Justin, Julian, Kyan and Nikhil but MP were still able to score 4. The offence was the Max M Show as he scored a hat trick and then added another for good luck. The last 5 minutes were breathless as both teams looked to get the winner and included a last minute phantom penalty but it ended in a 4-4 tie; by acclamation this was declared to be “close enough” to qualify the team to go for Victory Pizza in Thornwood.
U11 Girls – Strikers
The U11G Strikers ended their spring season on a really positive note. On Saturday the Strikers participated in the “Wiz of Oss” tournament in Ossining. They started with two convincing wins against an AYSO Briarcliff team 5-0, than two WYSL teams Edgemont Lady Panthers 4-0. Lastly against 3rd division Ossining Fire we held them to a 0-0 draw. That was all the Strikers needed to secure first place in the tournament.
Sunday the Strikers played their last game of the season. At home against Gotham Girls, again the girls started by going down a goal early in the first half. The visitors’ defense and goalkeeper had a strong first half to deny the Strikers a score on their attacking chances. The second have was different. The combination of the Strikers improving their passing and teamwork to create quality scoring opportunities, and the fact that their opponents didn’t have any substitutes. The girls were able to score four goals. Sabrina opened up the scoring with a breakaway goal from the mid-field. Melanie followed with a well struck goal. That was followed by a pair of great goals by Dylan. The first from the top of the penalty area. The second was a perfectly taken corner kick from the outside of her right foot curving past everyone and into the back of the net! This win should seal up 4th division champs in U11 girls.
U11 Boys – Tornadoes
The U11B Tornadoes endured their first loss of the season on Sunday vs. the Riverdale Falcons. Down 0-2 at the half once again, the boys saw their opponents score an own goal, then equalized with a solid header from Burnett (keeper Riucciti assist), and went ahead with a cannon shot from center-mid Ribeiro (Burnett assist). However the Falcons equalized and won in the final minutes. The boys fought hard, but individually--less as a team than they have in many past games. The Tornadoes close out their season with a makeup vs. the Harrison Eagles next Saturday.
U12 Girls – Mustangs
The Mustangs successfully defended their title at the Wiz of Oss tournament on Saturday in Ossining. They defeated AYSO teams from Brooklyn, Saugerty, Mt Kisco, and Mt Pleasant by scores of 3-0, 6-0, 6-0, and 1-0. Julia Costa was MVP scoring 5 goals and having two assists. The Mustangs won the separate shootout competition as well.
On Sunday they returned to the elite division 2 facing the only team that they had beaten so far in a must win game. Missing top defender Annie Dineen, the Mustangs tried to win with offense. They created 23 legitimate shots on goal and controlled possession for most of the game. Britany Alban also set up multiple corner kick scoring opportunities. Unfortunately four shots bounced off of the posts, several sailed high, and there was a missed call by the ref when a ball crossed the line but was quickly kicked out by the keeper. Rye, on the other hand, made the most of fewer opportunities, scoring 4 breakaway goals with their speedy and talented star forward. Sam Livingston managed to score her third goal of the weekend off an assist from Lily Rodriguez finishing scoring at 1-4.
Despite significant improvement in play noticed by their coaches the Mustangs next play North Salem with only pride on the line as they have clinched last place in Division 2.
U13 Girls – Horsemen
The Horsemen ended their spring season with a 0-3 loss to the Yonkers Rush Raptors last Sunday at a steamy Tibbets Brook Park.
After a back-and-forth first half that ended 0-0, the Rush Raptors struck shortly after the break and The Horsemen struggled to regain equilibrium for the rest of the match. Pushing for the tying goal left the Horsemen vulnerable to the counterattack and the home side capitalized midway through the second half to gain a two goal advantage. A late penalty gave the hosts a 3-0 win.
This brings our inaugural season in the WYSL to a close and the team is looking forward to a summer of training and the upcoming fall season.
U13 Boys – Tornadoes
Sunday June 14th Tarrytown, Tornadoes come up short versus New Rochelle 3-4
The Tornadoes were surprised early after dominating possession when a nice save by Devin Batheja was collected by New Rochelle and fired in short side. Before the end of the half, Sebastian (The Beast) Campuzano surprised the keeper with a highlight reel - glancing header short side off a corner kick by DJ Cronin. The Tornadoes dominated the first half possession but struggled to find the back of the net. The Tornadoes came out flat in the second half where New Rochelle scored 3 unanswered before the 20th minute was complete. DJ Cronin scored his first of the day with 10 minutes to play to reduce the lead to two. At the 30 minute mark he cut the lead again by beating 4 defenders in the box with some “Messi-like” dribbling and a quick shot to the bottom corner. The Tornadoes continued to press and dominate possession but ran out of time. This was only the Tornadoes second loss of the season.
The Tornadoes last game will be another home game Sunday June 21 at 1:45 PM against our arch rivals Rye Brook.
