Sleepy Hollow MS Students Participated In Adjudicated Festival In Connecticut

The musicians brought home four gold medals

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — The Sleepy Hollow Middle School Music Department faculty and students participated recently in an adjudicated performance for Fantastic Festivals in Connecticut and brought home four gold medals. The combined chorus sang "Here Comes the Sun" and "Every Time I Feel the Spirit." The sixth-grade band performed "Viking" and "Chester Variations," while the seventh and eighth grade band played "Rainforest Rhapsody" and "Kronos."

The full orchestra performed "Conquistador" followed by the seventh and eighth grade orchestra's rendition of "Fantasia On A Theme From Thailand,"

Festival adjudicators provided feedback designed to further the students' growth as musicians, according to a district spokesperson. Each piece was discussed with various instrument sections as the adjudicators provided specific instruction to enhance each child's future performances.

Suggestions included working on words, phrasing and breathing for chorus members. Band students were complimented on their tuning, stage entrance and posture, with reminders that posture tends to change as one plays wind instruments.

After the festival, the students were treated to a day at Lake Compounce amusement park.
