Sleepy Hollow Softball Can't Solve Torres, Baseball Loses to Croton
The girls softball team was shut out yesterday in Ossining, 4-0, while the boys lost to the Croton-Harmon Tigers 9-3.
Ossining Hurler Shuts Out Sleepy Hollow's Lady Horsemen
Things didn't get off to a good start for Sleepy Hollow (13-6), and their troubles began even before they arrived in Ossining for their game.
That's because the Lady Horsemen's bus got lost and because of that, the game started 35 minutes late.

That prompted Sleepy Hollow coach Tony Milewski to say, "Next time, I'm going to MapQuest the directions."
MapQuest though wouldn't have been able to help his squad muster any offense against Ossining's Cassie Torres, who had an outstanding game. Torres was great as she four-hit the visitors in a 4-0 Ossining victory Friday afternoon.

"She was pitching well, she hit the corners," Milewski said.
Sleepy Hollow sophomore shortstop Jen Onwe felt adjusting to a different type of pitching was tough, especially after a tough loss to Ardsley on Wednesday – Sleepy lost that game 15-0.
"It was the different speed," Onwe said. "Wednesday we came from that game, the pitcher was throwing faster and this pitcher, not so much her speed but her movement gave us a lot of problems."
Sleepy Hollow hurler Jamie Bucci also pitched a good game but a couple of errors helped the host Ossining score four unearned runs, with the first of the runs coming in the opening inning.
"Jamie pitched great, even the sixth inning, when they scored three runs," Milewski said. "She didn't allow any earned runs. If we make that play at third in the sixth, they wouldn't have had three runs in the sixth. She might have got a little bit tired towards the end but she pitched really well. It was our offense that let us down today."
The play Milewski was referring to was when Ossining's Maria Lemmey scored when, after stealing third, she came home on an overthrow that put her squad up 2-0. Two more unearned runs gave the hosts their four-run cushion going into the seventh inning, which was more than enough for Torres.
Sleepy Hollow's chance to tie the game came in the top of the sixth when Onwe ripped a double down the left-field line with one out, but unfortunately for the Lady Horsemen, the farthest she made it to was third base.
"When I was at the plate I knew we needed to get back in the game," Onwe said. "We were down 1-0 and I just had to get a hit to try and help us tie the game. We were trying to get the momentum and get everyone pumped up."
Onwe's hit gave her teammates confidence that they could do the same but it just didn't work out that way.
Onwe and her teammates will try to get back on the scoreboard when they travel to Ardsley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25.
"We have practice Monday and that's when we have to work on our hitting, fielding and try to eliminate some of the errors that we had when we played against Ardsley the first time on Wednesday," Onwe said.
Hardball Boys Lose to Croton-Harmon Tigers
A tough first inning for the boys baseball team was enough to keep the Croton-Harmon Tigers on top for the remainder of the game. Sleepy would lose to Croton, 9-3.
In the top of the first, the visiting Tigers tallied five runs off of some solid gap hitting, mostly between third base and shortstop.
After the first, things slowed down for the Tigers while Sleepy picked up the defense. In the top of the second, with men on, a Tiger's hitter knocked a shot to shallow center field. An amazing diving catch by Armando Cabrera kept Croton-Harmon from scoring.
The Horsemen scored their first run in the bottom of the second when Cabrera hit an infield dribbler to advance Yuniel Santana who had walked earlier in the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sleepy scored their second run when Nick Fanelli knocked a shot to center to drive in Ronnie Rodriguez who got on base with a single up the middle.
The Horsemen fought out of another tough situation in the top of the sixth when the Tigers had the bases loaded. After a conference at the mound, Fanelli, the catcher, threw out a Croton Harmon runner on third who had been a little too aggressive with his lead-off at the pitch. The stellar play ended the inning.
Sleepy tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but could only muster one run.
Despite a tough first inning, Horsemen pitcher Daniel Kaplan pitched most of the game. He was taken out in the middle of the seventh with 118 pitches under his belt.
Fanelli had two hits and two RBIs for the Horsemen.
