The St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ) will once again grace the Friends of Music stage on Saturday, May 10, when it performs a program of Haydn, Bartok, and Beethoven. The final program of Friends of Music's 60th season is at 8 p.m. in the Kusel Auditorium at Sleepy Hollow High School.
The SLSQ has a new second violinist, Mark Fewer, who joined the group in January, replacing Scott St. John. The group has retained its Canadian roots by hiring Fewer, who had been concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony. His eclectic resume includes work as a jazz violinist and a session player in Montreal. He previously had substituted for the St. Lawrence's violinists during their paternity leaves.
Violinist Geoff Nuttall and violist Lesley Robertson are founding members of the quartet, hailing from London, Ontario, and Edmonton, Alberta, respectively. Cellist Christopher Costanza, who joined the group in 2003, is from Utica, NY. www.slsq.com.

The SLSQ reveals surprising nuances in familiar repertoire and illuminates the works of some of today's most celebrated composers, often all in the course of one evening. Composer John Adams has written two critically-acclaimed works for the quartet.
Founded in Toronto in 1989, the SLSQ is the resident string quartet at Stanford University. The group's stature increased after it won the Banff International String Quartet Competition and Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1992. During the summer, the SLSQ continues its long association with the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.
Tickets for the SLSQ concert on May 10 are $30 for adults; students age 18 and under will be admitted free. Order forms may be downloaded from www.friendsofmusicconcerts.org and then mailed with a check to Friends of Music Concerts, P.O. Box 675, Millwood, NY 10546. Sleepy Hollow High School is located at 210 North Broadway (Route 9), in Sleepy Hollow. Parking is free.
