Students to Premiere New Version of “Hail To Sleepy Hollow”

Tarrytown Union Free School District

(TUFSD)

Students throughout the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns will gather in the Sleepy Hollow Middle School Gymnasium on Wednesday, March 20 for Bandemonium. This annual tradition brings together band students in grades 5 to 12 for a unique performance that allows them to show off their talents. Similar to year’s past, the students will perform an original piece together at the end. This year they will also perform a new version of the Sleepy Hollow alma mater “Hail To Sleepy Hollow.”

Throughout the years, different composers were hired to prepare music for the students to perform as a grand finale. This year with the generous support of the Horseman Parent Teacher Association and the Sleepy Hollow Performing Arts Boosters a new arrangement of the alma mater "Hail To Sleepy Hollow" was composed by alumnus Bill Losier, Class of 1988.

“This year we did something a little unique. We reached out to Bill, who is a band director, composer, and music writer,” said Abigail Ferri, a music teacher at Washington Irving Intermediate School. “He did a great job. I really enjoy this piece because it’s accessible for all grade levels, so every student gets to participate and be a part of this big thing.”

Band students throughout the district have been eagerly anticipating the concert and are excited to take the stage. The event is not only a way for them to showcase their musical abilities but also a way to learn from one another.

“It’s a great concert for everyone because the fifth graders get to see he older students, who are at the highest level of music making, and can see how they can grow,” said Ms. Ferri. “For the older students they can see where they have been and can act as a role model.”
