Tappan Zee Lane Closures Scheduled for Overnight Friday
This follows the demolition of concrete barriers and overhead toll plaza structures.

Motorists using the Tappan Zee Bridge this weekend face some lane closures.
The Thruway Authority said southbound/eastbound traffic on the I-87/I-287 near the former Tarrytown toll plaza will shift to four newly unobstructed lanes.
This follows the demolition of several concrete barriers and overhead toll plaza structures by Tappan Zee Constructors LLC.

Work on the lane transition will require triple lane closures on the southbound/eastbound Thruway between Exit 10 (Nyack-South Nyack-U.S. Route 9W) and Exit 9 (Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow-U.S. Route 9) overnight Friday, May 20.
There will also be periodic traffic stops that could last up to 10 minutes on all four lanes of the southbound bridge.

Traffic stops will occur between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The Thruway Authority will be coordinating the traffic flow.
Closures will begin as follows:
- Friday, May 20, 8 p.m.: One left lane
- Friday, May 20, 9 p.m.: Two left lanes
- Saturday, May 21, Midnight: Three left lanes
- Saturday, May 21, 8 a.m.: All lane closures end
Motorists are advised to stay in the right-hand lane after the transition, because there will be little time to merge from the left at highway speeds.
The new lane configuration will be in place until late 2016, the Thruway Authority said.
