Tarrytown Police Close Investigation Into Suspicious Incident

A child said a man in a white car stopped and asked if he wanted a ride.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Police have completed an investigation into the suspicious incident Tuesday in which someone driving near a child and asked if they needed a ride. Tarrytown police, through an extensive canvas and interviews, were able to identify the vehicle and its male driver.

The man in question, they said, was identified as a local school student who lives in the community.

The student said there was no malicious or criminal intent.

“At this time, the police department has concluded its investigation and is confident that there is not threat to the public regarding this matter,” the department said on its Facebook page.

A 10-year-old who goes to Main Street School in the Irvington district was standing near the intersection of Meadow Street and Millbrook Avenue waiting for the school bus.

The child said a late model Honda Civic four-door sedan pulled up and stopped near the child.

Police said the child reported that a white man, possibly in his 20s or 30s with dark hair and a short goatee, spoke to him through the open passenger-side window, asking him if he wanted a ride. The child replied that he did not and the man drove off.
