Tarrytown Voters To Decide On $78M Budget For 2018-19

There are three additional propositions the voters will have to approve.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The Tarrytown United Free School District voters will decide whether to approve the budget for the 2018-19 school district Tuesday, May 15. The spending package is $77.9 million, up 2.98 percent from the current year.

The tax levy increase is 1 percent, which is under the allowable mandated tax cap for the district.

According to the district’s budget fact sheet, a tax rate decrease of 1.23 percent is anticipated for Greenburgh residents and an increase of 4.99 percent is anticipated for Mount Pleasant residents. The disparity is because of changes in state-imposed equalization rates.

Besides the budget, there will be three addition propositions for voters to consider.

The first calls for the use of $2 million in capital reserve funds for capital improvements. The second would authorize the bonding of $6 million for capital improvements; the district said it will be budget neutral because debts from past projects are being retired and principal and interest from the new bonds will be less than is currently budgeted.

The third proposition would give the district the authority to purchase four 70-passenger school buses and one 20-passenger van, the cost of which would be paid for through unassigned fund balance and would not affect the 2018-19 budget.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tarrytown residents vote at Washington Irving School. Sleepy Hollow residents vote at Winfield Morse School.
