Rescued: Injured Worker Under the New NY Bridge
Injured in an almost inaccessible area of the bridge, a worker was hard for rescue crews to get to.

HUDSON RIVER, NY — A worker injured in what rescue crews discovered was an almost inaccessible location under the New NY Bridge was extricated after a multi-agency response in a tech-rescue operation. Crews from Rockland and Westchester responded, including the Westchester County Marine Unit, in case the injured man needed to be lowered down to the Hudson River.
"A subcontractor installing electrical systems in a catwalk at Pier 38 suffered a minor ankle sprain," said Tappan Zee Constructors spokesperson Damien LaVera in a statement. "Due to the location of the incident, local Fire and EMS units were dispatched to assist in his exit. This was a routine and precautionary step taken consistent with our standard safety protocols. We appreciate the swift and professional response by the local first responders."
The worker was able to be hoisted up to the bridge surface.
