TEDxTarrytown Talk Inspired By New Tappan Zee Bridge

TARRYTOWN, NY — A new locally focused TED talk inspired by the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will take place in October. “TEDxTarrytown: Rise” follows the success of last year’s “TEDxTarrytown: Forward.” The evening of networking and learning will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017.

The independently produced event, operated under a license from TED, was organized by community volunteers and is aimed at creating dialogue as well as giving speakers a forum to share their passions, ideas, and experiences. The event is open to the public.

Taking place at the Irvington Town Hall Theater in Irvington, the event will feature a line-up of speakers focusing on the theme “Rise.”

Speakers include Ethan Schutz, president and CEO of The Schutz Company; Jennifer Walford, elementary school teacher and publisher of Found in Yonkers; Hugh Locke, president of the Smallholder Farmers Alliance; Jamey Barbas, PE, project director, Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge; Pablo Mayor, musician, Owner Folklore Urbano; Amy Whitaker, author, Art Thinking; Michael Alcee Ph.D., clinical psychologist, and Jaron Benjamin, vice president for community mobilization for Housing Works, Inc.

The event will feature videos from TED.com and will be hosted by MC, Arda Ocal, a 16-year broadcaster currently working with MSG Networks as host of “The MSG Hockey Show” and digital host with ESPN.

“A TEDx event is an engaging way to bring speakers and attendees in the community together for a shared experience that will allow attendees to hear new ‘ideas worth spreading’ or familiar ideas looked at from a new angle,” said Kimberly Marcus, TEDxTarrytown organizer and team member. “The hope is that attendees will then share these ideas in the broader community with the goal of affecting a potential change, even if that change is only one person’s mind.” The theme “Rise” for this year’s event was inspired by the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge being constructed on the Hudson River.
