Horseman Revives, Flower Box Closes

Some good news this week, some bad in Sleepy Hollow business.

Thanks to Patch readers for passing along two news tips this week:

One reader wrote that he saw people emptying out the contents of the Flower Box floral shop in Sleepy Hollow one evening. In fact, the website is down and the phone number no longer operates.

Sadly the shop recently named Best Of: Florists decided in October to shut its doors after 28 years in business (between this and its previous location in Tarrytown under owner's Arthur Cabezas expertise). Cabezas and his flowers will be missed.

On the good news front: a reader passed on the tip that there was a “now hiring” sign in the window of The Horseman, which had shut down quickly and dramatically some months back, leaving many regulars wondering where to go for breakfast.

Well, they answer the phones now but they won’t be open for another two to three weeks. They are conducting open interviews at the moment, looking to hire “everybody” said Melissa Smutek.

Smutek said it’s under the same owners, the same management, the menu will stay the same; the Horseman will indeed return to its previous beloved status. Only with many new staff members.

It had been closed for a “family matter," Smutek said, but they are back on track now. She said that because they were closed for so long, people who had been working there couldn’t wait around and had to find new jobs.

So, an opportunity if you're in the market for employment. The restaurant will be updating the "hiring" sign with new dates and times and Smutek is also accepting emails from those interested at melissasmutek@gmail.com.
