WEDC Celebrates Women's Economic Empowerment at Annual Spring Luncheon and Marketplace

Jenne K. Britell, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of United Rentals, the world’s largest equipment rental company, was the keynote speaker at the Women’s Enterprise Development Center’s (WEDC) Annual Spring Luncheon and Marketplace held June 11 at Tappan Hill Mansion.

Speaking to a sold-out luncheon crowd about corporate social responsibility, Britell focused her remarks on “conscious capitalism.” She captivated the audience with examples of significant policies in her corporation which have changed the way United Rentals does business while increasing profitability. She stressed that smaller companies can implement socially responsible policies without losing focus on the need to be profitable.

The day’s honorees included Millie Hernandez-Becker, President and CEO of Skyqueen Enterprises, and Susan Lonergan, Managing Director, NE Region Sales Executive Small Business Banking, Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Lisa Salvadorini, anchor for News 12 Westchester and Hudson Valley, emceed the program.

Prior to the luncheon, guests enjoyed strolling thought the WEDC Marketplace where graduates of the organization’s 15-week business training program displayed their products. The marketplace showcased the impact that WEDC has in building women-owned businesses that generate economic growth in Westchester and the Hudson Valley.

WEDC’s programs and services not only help women launch new businesses, but also support existing women business owners through advanced workshops and counseling to expand their businesses.
