Art Crawl: Origami Heaven Artist Talk by Hiroshi Hayakawa

Origami Heaven Exhibition artist talk by Hiroshi Hayakawa at the Charles B. Wang Center, Stony Brook University on Thurs., Sept. 10 at 3

Born and raised in Japan, Hiroshi Hayakawa studied French Literature at Keio University in Tokyo. He began his pursuit of an artistic career by studying fine arts and photography at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Mr. Hayakawa’s primary artistic mediums are photography and sculpture, but he has also published four books on the subject of paper crafts: Kingami Menagerie (2009), Paper Pups (2013), Paper Birds (2014) and Paper Monsters & Curious Creatures (2014).


In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, Mr. Hayakawa created a special origami triptych which evokes both the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 and Mr. Hayakawa’s vision of a better, nuclear-free future. www.hiroshi-hayakawa.com

The Art Crawl is a free event with guided tours of all the Stony Brook University campus galleries. There is a variety of artwork that will be exhibited including work from international artists, Stony Brook students and digital artists who work in the math and sciences.

This is a two day event. The first day is Thursday September 10th, 2015 beginning at 3:00pm at the Skylight Gallery at the Wang Center with a lecture by Origami Heaven exhibition artist Hiroshi Hayakawa and will last until 5:00pm. The second day is Wednesday November 18th, 2015 beginning at 3:00pm at the Alloway Gallery in Melville Library and will also last until 5:00pm. Both days of the Art Crawl will end with a public reception.
