The Atelier Art School and Gallery

Award-winning artist Mary Jane van Zeijts has produced ten new works for you to enjoy. As a professional artist with experience in several mediums, Mary Jane goes into nature for inspiration. She never tires of things to paint such as Avalon Park, [Frank] Melville [Memorial] Park and West Meadow Beach. The landscape is so varied that she is forever inspired to create.
“Art allows you to be quiet with yourself, it centers you, and gives you an awareness of yourself. It’s more about feelings than what she actually sees and the desire to have those feelings come through the painting. Pastels allow her to do that because they are so immediate. You feel it and you can just put it down before it is lost. You don’t have to mix the paint, or wait for anything to dry. 
Growing up, Mary Jane was always involved with drawing and painting. She started teaching at age 16 at the Gifted Child Society where she realized that she loved working with young people. 
She received her Bachelor of Fine Art Degree from Maryland Institute College of Art, where her concentration was in drawing and printmaking. She earned a Master of Arts in Education with honors from New York University and has taught both publicly and privately while exhibiting widely. Mary Jane's award-winning work is in both public and private collections. In December 2015 she opened Studio 268 in Setauket, New York, where she teaches and shows her work, as well as the works of local artists. ​You may view her art at www.maryjanevanzeijts.com

Music&nbsp;@ SPC&nbsp;is pleased to present the virtuosi of&nbsp;Vision Possible&nbsp;in concert on&nbsp;Saturday, October 10th at 7:30pm at Setauket Presbyterian Church. Violinist Hudson Y. Chung, cellists&nbsp;Jonathan Kim and Gustavo Antoniacomi, and pianist&nbsp;Owen Dodds perform&nbsp;Prokofiev's&nbsp;Cello Sonata&nbsp;and&nbsp;Arensky's&nbsp;Piano Trio No. 1. Admission is FREE (no RSVP or tickets required), and&nbsp;donations are gratefully accepted to benefit the Tang Institute for Musical Excellence (TIME), supporting the education of young musicians on Long Island.
A meet-and-greet with the artists follows the event and light refreshments will be served.&nbsp;All are welcome!&nbsp;

The basic principle of eco printing is that various leaves and plant materials (fresh or dried) possess tannins that have the innate ability to print permanent color onto fabric fibers when combined with the proper technique and procedure. The process usually involves a form of heat and pressure to create a distinctive print. You can achieve the most amazing prints and colors just by using natural elements which don’t harm our planet. An eco print can never be repeated, because every leaf is unique, even the two sides of that leaf are different.
Oksana Danziger is a natural-born creator with a passion for textile art. She has exhibited tapestry, silk paintings and fabric fine art collages throughout Russia's galleries and museums after graduating from Moscow State Textile University where she received a Master's Degree.
Since moving to New York City, where she lives and works today, she's sold collections of her silk scarves at Henri Bendel in Manhattan and had a solo exhibition of silk paintings in Gallery One in Soho, New York. She regularly exhibits her work at the Art League of Long Island and Long Island Craft Guild. 
Oksana teaches classes and workshops at Nassau Museum of Art, Gallery North, The Art Guild, Huntington Art Council, and The Atelier.

This “Eco Printing” workshop will take place in our newly renovated gallery in St. James on Thursday, October 15th at 10AM-1PM. The cost is $110 per person which includes all materials to create a beautiful silk scarf to bring home.
