Please join us for a special dual artist demonstration, highlighting the two different approaches by Jane McGraw-Teubner and Anthony Davis. During this special presentation, the two artists will interpret the same scene, Anthony using oil and Jane pastel, giving attendees deeper insight as to how individual style and choice of medium influence the color of light in landscape art.
Both paintings will be made available by raffle with proceeds to benefit the Atelier Art School and Gallery. Tickets are $10 for one and $25 for three and the winning ticket will be pulled on the last day of the exhibition, which is Thursday, September 25th.
This “Duelling Demo” event will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 1-3PM and is FREE.
Anthony Davis is a self-taught artist known mostly for his award-winning maritime scenes and seascapes in pastel and oil. He is a Signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and artist member of both the Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association. Anthony’s seascape themed artwork has been shown nationally in numerous ASMA exhibitions, and his work has been featured in International Artist Magazine, and on the cover of Pastel Journal. 
Jane McGraw-Teubner is a Signature Member/Master Pastelist, Pastel Society of America and a Master Circle Recipient, International Association of Pastel Societies. She is a resident artist in the Salmagundi Art Club, New York, NY and is on the Board of Directors for The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. In 2020, she became a Eminent Pastelist with IAPS. She was on the cover, Plein Air Magazine, with a 5 page article, Oct/Nov, 2017. She is included in “Pure Pastel” a nationally published book about pastels released in 2019
Their dual exhibition, “The Color of Light: Landscapes &amp; Seascapes”, runs from Thursday, August 6th through September 25th and highlights individual styles with unique artistic visions and perspectives.The Opening Reception is scheduled for Friday, August 7th at 5:30PM.

Painting en plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air.” It’s not so much a style as it is the effects of the weather, changing light and time constraints on the artist.Plein air painting gained popularity during the 19th century, particularly among the Impressionist painters, who sought to capture the effects of light and color in the natural world. Artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro were known for their plein air works, which often featured vibrant colors and loose brushstrokes to convey the atmosphere and mood of the scenes they painted.
Fred Mendelsohn, your instructor, will guide students through the steps of creating a successful painting “en plein air” using pastel, oil, acrylic or watercolor paints. He will share his creative process, sources of inspiration, and tools and techniques. The beginning stages, consisting of preliminary sketches and blocking in, will be discussed and practiced, as will elements further into the painting process: color harmony, value and atmospheric perspective. 
Frederic Mendelsohn, is a modern-day Renaissance man — neurologist, philanthropist, author, musician and artist. He is the holder of both a BA and MA degree as well as a MD, andis predominantly a landscape artist utilizing both oil and egg tempera paints. With over four decades of experience, Frederic has studied extensively with the Art Students League in NYC, The Art League of Long Island, New School University, and Marymount College, and is a proud member of the Long Island Museum Artist Guild as well as the Setauket Artist Group and the North Shore Art Guild.
The fee for this 4-hour workshop is $110. A variety of ability levels are welcomed and the materials list will be available on our website when registering. Students will meet in the parking lot of the Frank Melvile Park, in Setauket, for this workshop. If time permits, you will return to The Atelier to review and critique the day's work in studio light.

IN OUR NEWLY RENOVATED GALLERY!Join artist and historian Randall DiGiuseppe as he gives a tour down New York City’s Museum Mile, home to the world’s largest concentration of artworks ranging from the prehistoric to modern masters. He will be discussing all eight museums that comprise Museum Mile. In this lecture, he will include a brief description of each museum's location, primary collectionsignature highlights and present exhibitions. Broken down into Four Categories (Heritage, History, Design &amp; Art) this lecture will include: Heritage: El Museo del Barrio; The Jewish Museum; and The Africa Center History: The Museum of the City of New York Design: Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Art: Neue Gallerie; Guggenheim Museum; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art Honorable Mention: The Frick Collection This light and informative walk down the world’s most dense cultural corridor will also provide information on each museum’s operating hours, price of admission, parking (or lack thereof) and tips to make your visit more enjoyable. All are welcome to attend this lecture.

Randall DiGiuseppe is an American artist whose works have been shown in galleries, museums and throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. His formal art training began in 1983 at the High School of Art &amp; Design in NYC in 1983.His true passion has always been in fine art and teaching classical art technique, leading him to pursue further study at the Art Students League of New York, Pratt Institute, Long Island Academy of Fine Art and the New York Academy of Art where he earned his MFA in 2012. The Atelier is fortunate to offer his expertise as a lecturer and art instructor.

TEN years ago, in a former helicopter factory in Flowerfield, St. James, NY, The Atelier was born. It was modeled after the great traditions of the early Florentine masters, where students could draw and paint alongside their teachers in an environment devoted to learning, mentorship and artistic excellence.
TEN years later, The Atelier continues to grow and flourish!
To celebrate TEN years of creativity, we are asking artists to submit a 10” x 10”&nbsp;piece of artwork, excluding square frame, which includes TEN of anything…trees, music notes, flowers, boxes, birds, lines…the possibilities are up to you, the artist!

If you have a 10” x 10” portrait, does it include ten fingers? Does your 10” x 10” landscape landscape include 10 trees, 10 branches, 10 clouds, 10 flowers, 10 birds? Have you used 10 colors in your 10” x 10”&nbsp;painting? The ten is open to your artistic interpretation!

This non-juried exhibition is open to all artists, who may submit up to three works measuring 10” x 10”, excluding square frames, in any medium for $25. Artwork must be ready to hang, with a label attached to the back listing the artist’s name, title, and medium.
Artwork must be submitted by October 12th
Notification of acceptance will be by October19th
Artwork must be delivered by October 26th

The 44th Annual WICC Surfside Hotel <a href="https://www.bluefishtournament.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth</a> returns to Long Island Sound on Saturday, August 29, with fishing officially beginning at 12:01 a.m. Anglers from New York and Connecticut will compete for bragging rights—and a $25,000 grand prize awarded to the tournament's largest bluefish.
The weekend-long tournament features more than $40,000 in total cash prizes, including:
<ul><li>1st Place: $25,000</li><li>2nd Place: $7,500</li><li>3rd Place: $2,500</li><li>Smaller cash prizes awarded through 20th Place</li><li>Port Prizes awarded for the heaviest bluefish weighed at each official Connecticut and New York weigh station (see below for complete list of weigh stations)</li></ul>
Young anglers, 17 and under, will also have the chance to win big. The tournament will award a $1,000 cash prize to the largest bluefish caught by a youth angler. Second and third place youth winners will receive $100 gift cards.
