The Atelier

Enjoy a day of fun and creativity in this introduction to silk painting, an ancient technique that first originated in India and Eastern Asia. First, you will be guided through a variety of techniques, tools and paints used on silk, as you create your own sample test pieces. Then move on to creating a unique masterpiece scarf or wall hanging of your own. You will learn this wet on wet technique and the unlimited possibilities that occur when allowing the silk friendly fabric paint to co-create with you.

The Atelier at Flowerfield

This exhibition, “The Color of Light: Landscapes &amp; Seascapes””, will highlight individual styles with unique artistic visions and perspectives by local artists Anthony Davis and Jane McGraw Teubner. 
Anthony Davis is a self-taught artist known mostly for his award-winning maritime scenes and seascapes in pastel and oil. He is a Signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and artist member of both the Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association. Anthony’s seascape themed artwork has been shown nationally in numerous ASMA exhibitions, and his work has been featured in International Artist Magazine, and on the cover of Pastel Journal. His paintings have received dozens of awards, including multiple gold and silver medals for pastel at The Salmagundi Club’s Annual Members show. He has also taught his approach to seascape painting and given numerous demonstrations across the country, and currently teaches plein air painting through The Atelier Art School and Gallery. Anthony is represented by numerous galleries on Long Island, New York, Connecticut and Martha’s Vineyard. When not painting, Anthony is a practicing physical therapist for the past 33 years and has recently published his first novel. 
Jane is a Signature Member/Master Pastelist, Pastel Society of America and a Master Circle Recipient, International Association of Pastel Societies. In 2020, she became a Eminent Pastelist with IAPS. She was on the cover, Plein Air Magazine, with a 5 page article, Oct/Nov, 2017. She is included in “Pure Pastel” a nationally published book about pastels released in 2019. In 2014 and 2015, she was invited to be a demonstrator and a field artist at the Plein Air Convention held in Monterey, CA, hosted by Plein Air Magazine. Jane’s artwork has been featured on the cover of the 2013 December issue of The Pastel Journal along with an 8 page article. She was featured Artist December 2017: Huntington Times News, NY.
Jane is a resident artist in the Salmagundi Art Club, New York, NY and is on the Board of Directors for The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She taught pastel painting at The Teaching Studios of Art in Oyster Bay, NY from 2009-2018 and presently teaches at her home in East Northport, NY and at the Atelier at Flowerfield, St. James, NY.
The dual exhibition opens Thursday, August 6th, and runs through September 25th. There will be an opening reception on Friday evening, August 7th at 5:30PM. “The Color of Light: Landscapes & Seascapes,” a dual exhibition Anthony Davis & Jane McGraw Teubner 

Join international award-winning ensemble Serenade Duo for an engaging recital of “Global Chamber Music”. Michelle LaPorte, on the flute and Gerry Saulter, on guitar, comprise Serenade Duo and invite you to bring your imagination, curiosity, sketch pads, writing journals and/or any other creative tools and medium to be a part of a multidisciplinary experience designed to bring people and the arts together!
By discovering inspiration through flute and guitar music from around the world, you are encouraged to explore their creativity by working on your own art during this concert performance or you can just sit back and enjoy the music. To enhance the listening experience, Serenade Duo will share some friendly conversation about the pieces and composers. Audience interaction is encouraged.
As performers, teaching artists and “Global Chamber Music” advocates, Serenade Duo has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and the Carribean. As five-time winners of Artists Interantional’s Distinguished Chamber Music Award, the Duo has performed at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hll in New York City. 
Michelle LaPorte is a 2025 Artist Fellowship Grant Recipient. This work is supported by Long Island Grants for the Arts through funds provided by the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.
This event is FREE and refreshments will be served. The Atelier will have some supplies available but you are encouraged to bring your own art materials. In this 4-Day Workshop for Teens, students will learn how to work with oil paints and create a landscape-inspired oil painting. They will explore the large range of depth and flexibility of oil paints and gain an understanding of transparency, opacity, value, color paint handling and color theory through blending and rendering realistically.

Ever wondered how the Best plein air nocturne painters do what they do? Come join this 1st time ever workshop and learn from five time Best Nocturne award winning painter, Kirk Larsen. This unique class will help demystify the process, guide you through the steps and introduce you to the tools and materials needed as you paint plein air, at night and gain a better understanding of how to approach night painting. Learn the difference between painting artificially lit subjects vs moonlit and ambient light. The workshop occurs a day after the full moon and if weather cooperates, you’ll have an opportunity to include the moon in your painting. 
Identify &amp; define your subject, adjust your cropping and focus before applying paint; set colors, forms, design while becoming your own best support system at the easel; His lively upbeat approach is inspiring, insightful, comfortable, fun and welcoming for the novice to very experienced professional. The Atelier Summer Workshop:  Nocturne Plein Air Painting  Instructed by Kirk Larsen

Please join us for a special dual artist demonstration, highlighting the two different approaches by Jane McGraw-Teubner and Anthony Davis. During this special presentation, the two artists will interpret the same scene, Anthony using oil and Jane pastel, giving attendees deeper insight as to how individual style and choice of medium influence the color of light in landscape art.

At the completion of the demonstration, both paintings will be made available by raffle, with proceeds to benefit the Atelier: Art School and Gallery. This “Duelling Demo” event will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 1-3PM and is FREE.
