STONY BROOK, NY — Pollo Campero, a national chicken franchise with a few Long Island spots, contributed in the fight against the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19.

Edwin Gomez, a nurse at Stony Brook Medicine, wanted to help his team stay ahead of the demand due to the concern of personal protective equipment shortages. Gomez worked at the Pollo Campero in Bay Shore while attending nursing school and always admired the brand’s commitment to its communities, the company said in a news release. Gomez reached out to his former manager and asked if the restaurant could help.

After receiving Gomez's request, the Bay Shore branch, located at 1665 5th Ave., donated 10 boxes of gloves to the staff at Stony Brook. Meals were also provided to those working when the PPE was delivered.
