Most people with COVID-19 get better within weeks, but some experience long-term side effects, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Post-COVID-19 conditions range from "new to returning, or ongoing health problems" that patients can experience for weeks after first being infected with the virus, Stony Brook Medicine officials said.
Stony Brook’s post-COVID-19 clinic opened in November 2020 at Stony Brook Medicine’s Advanced Specialty Care in Commack to provide ongoing care and assessment of adults who are recovering from the virus. At the clinic, patients have access to a range of doctors such as primary care physicians and specialists in the areas of cardiology, pulmonary and vascular medicine, nephrology, neurology, as well as mental health providers.

The clinic provides care for patients who are still experiencing symptoms, and staffers monitor patients for "any late effects of COVID-19 infection," officials said.
