Long Island Singer Donating Patriotic Shirt Proceeds To Veterans

EAST SETAUKET, NY — Carolyn Benson, a singer and East Setauket native, partnered with The Journey Home Project on special edition t-shirts honoring veterans, their families and the National Anthem, according to a news release. The project is in observance of May being Military Awareness Month.

"As the COVID-19 epidemic continues to ravage lives, it also places an even bigger strain on the resources that our veterans count on," Benson said in a statement. "That is why I am donating the proceeds from the sale of each-shirt through Memorial Day to support the foundation’s efforts to help veterans and their families across the country."

For each Anthem t-shirt bought, $5 will go to The Journey Home Project, founded by country singer Charlie Daniels and his manager, David Corlew, according to Benson's website.

The shirts will be available until 11:59 p.m. June 1 and can be bought here.

"To me it is vital that we step up, show our Veterans, first responders and their families they are not alone and that we are a grateful nation," Benson wrote on her site. "It's our time to rescue those who have sacrificed so much, for all of our freedoms. God Bless America."

The Journey Home Project helps not-for-profit causes that provide veterans with rehabilitation and re-integration opportunities as they transition back into civilian life.

Daniels gave Benson a shout out to thank her for her donation in a recent fundraising letter he sent to supporters.

"I would like to thank Carolyn Benson for setting an example by taking it upon herself to sell custom made patriotic tee shirts and donating…the proceeds to our work," Daniels stated in the letter.
