Traffic on 25A in Stony Brook fell to a crawl on Tuesday when a driver rear-ended a school bus, though nobody was injured.
The car, however, was mangled when it became wedged under the rear bumper.
The bus is operated by the Stony Brook School, though a representative from the private school confirmed at the scene that nobody was hurt.
The roadway is already become clogged recently, as construction along the sidewalks has led workers to eliminate the turning lane in places.
