Stony Brook's Marie Colvin Center To Host Teach-In About Ukraine

The event will include members of academia and national press reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

STONY BROOK, NY — Stony Brook University’s Marie Colvin Center for International Reporting will host a teach-in about the war in Ukraine on Wednesday.

The event will feature a panel of media and academic experts, who will come together to discuss the war in Ukraine with the university community, as well as the public. It will include reporters from national media outlets reporting in and about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Stony Brook journalism instructor and Sunday Times of London reporter Sarah Baxter will serve as the moderator. She will be joined on the panel by:

  • John Frederick Bailyn, SBU linguistics professor and former co-director of the New York-St. Petersburg Institute
  • Louise Callaghan, Sunday Times of London foreign correspondent in Ukraine
  • Leonie Huddy, SBU political science professor and department chair
  • Alexander Orlov, SBU professor of material science and chemical engineering, an expert to the EU Parliament and UK government on several topics, including Ukraine
  • Simon Ostrovsky, "PBS NewsHour" special correspondent in Ukraine
  • Jonathan Sanders, SBU journalism professor and former Moscow correspondent for "CBS News"
  • Michael Slackman, New York Times foreign editor

The event will be held in Frey Hall, Room 100, Stony Brook University West Campus, on Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
