Three Village Businesses Share their Holiday Picks

Local merchants suggest hot items for before, during, and after your Independence Day party.

Across town, as Three Village residents geared up for Independence Day, local business owners shared what's hot for holiday parties this weekend.

"Wine" Down

Richard Mora, owner of Mora's Fine Wine and Spirits, recommended Muga Dry Spanish Rosé ($12.99), which he said should be served very cold and goes with everything. He also suggested a local wine, Jamesport's sauvignon blanc (regularly $18.99, on sale for $16.14).

Then there's the Four Vines Biker red zinfandel ($23.99), which will complement grilled foods well.

"It's an all-American wine, and it's an all-American holiday," said Mora, who hosts wine tastings every Saturday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the shop.

Eat it Up

Steak, ribs and chicken may be no-brainers for July 4, but Matt Lin of Setauket Seafood pointed out that certain types of fish turn out well on the grill, too.

"For the grill, you can try swordfish or salmon," Lin said. "Barbeque whole bluefish. You can even smoke it."

Cool Off

Alex Solounias at Bella Dolce, which will be open July 4, said everyone knows about the cafe's red-white-and-blue ices. Then he drew attention to the store's selection of fruit sorbets, including mango, raspberry, strawberry, and watermelon, which are available to take home in pints ($6.50) or quarts ($11.50).

"In the sumertime, especially the strawberry and watermelon, they're in season," Solounias said.

Bella Dolce also sells "Only 8" lowfat yogurt for waistline-watchers who are craving a sweet treat.
