Three Village Students Commended for Quick Actions, Bravery During Summer Fire
Boys recognized by the Setauket Fire District's Board of Commissioners.

At their meeting on Oct. 2, the Setauket Fire District’s Board of Commissioners recognized four local boys who, because of their quick actions, saved a house from total destruction in late summer.
Joseph Babis, a third-grade student at Nassakeag Elementary School, Brody Babis, a kindergartner at Nassakeag Elementary School, William Boonin, a third-grader at Setauket Elementary School and JD Boonin, a second-grade student at Setauket Elementary School, were each honored with a special certificate and lauds of commendations from all in attendance.
On Aug. 25, the boys were playing in the backyard at the Boonin residence when they saw smoke from above the fence. They climbed up to the top of the swing set to get a better view, where they saw a fire at a neighboring house. The boys quickly ran inside and told Mrs. Beth Boonin, who then called 911.
