📰 News we're reading

• Making the Dream of Homeownership a Reality (einpresswire.com) — Twenty new affordable starter homes are coming to the Town of Tonawanda thanks to more than $6 million from New York’s new MOVE-IN NY program. Factory-built “CrossMod” houses will be placed on local lots and sold below construction cost to qualifying buyers, expanding homeownership options for young families and moderate-income residents.

• DEC awards nearly $1M to five community-based organizations in WNY (wgrz.com) — A state environmental justice grant is sending nearly $200,000 to the North Tonawanda Botanical Garden to restore lawn areas with native plants and boost its education and greenhouse work. The funding is part of nearly $1 million awarded to five Western New York groups tackling pollution, food access, and climate resilience, with several projects centered in Buffalo neighborhoods.

• New York Republicans push to restore funding for Blakeman – [your]NEWS (yournews.com) — Tonawanda’s own Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt is leading a push in Albany to change New York’s public campaign finance rules after GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman was denied matching funds. Ortt’s bill would let governor and lieutenant governor candidates apply jointly, which Republicans say would correct a last‑minute technical requirement they argue unfairly shut Blakeman out of millions in potential public financing.
