• 50 apartments planned for two former Catholic schools in City of Tonawanda (buffalonews.com) — Two long-vacant St. Francis of Assisi school buildings in the City of Tonawanda are slated to become about 50 market‑rate apartments under a $5–6 million adaptive reuse project. A local investor group, Canal Lofts LLC, is awaiting State Supreme Court approval to finalize its $575,000 purchase and then plans mostly one‑bedroom units, with minimal changes to the schools’ existing layouts.
   

• N.Y. Trooper Leaps Over Barrier to Avoid Chain-Reaction Crash (officer.com) — A New York State Police trooper avoided serious injury by leaping over a concrete barrier during a chain-reaction crash on I-90 in Tonawanda. Investigators say a pickup driver, later arrested on DWI and other charges, hit a car that then slammed into the trooper’s parked cruiser, heavily damaging it but leaving everyone unhurt.
