Central Park Crash Sees Truck Hit Overpass, Officials Say

NEW YORK CITY, NY — A box truck hit an overpass in Central Park Friday afternoon, officials said.

The truck hit the overpass on the 66th Street transverse near the Upper West Side about 12:50 p.m. Friday, according to the FDNY and NYPD.

Video taken at the scene shows firefighters and police officers examining a white four-wheel truck and the stone overpass.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management was called to assist the fire department. NYPD officers and Central Park officials were also on the scene. Agencies are assessing damage to any structures, an FDNY spokesperson said.

No injuries had been reported as of 2 p.m., officials said.

Update: Transportation department crews inspected the bridge and found minimal damage (none structural) limited to wire mesh under the overpass, a spokesperson said. Traffic was restricted Friday to allow for repairs.
