The People’s Church is more than a historic building in East Harlem—it is part of the living story of El Barrio. In 1969, the Young Lords transformed the church into a gathering place for food, healthcare, education, culture, and community action, creating a space where Puerto Rican people could come together, care for one another, and assert their place in the city. More than five decades later, the People’s Church remains a powerful reminder of El Barrio’s tradition of turning community, culture, and creativity into action.
The People’s Church is a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together to create, care, and make change. Join us in supporting its future.
