The Saint Andrew Chorale opens its 62^nd season with two glorious choral works of the 20^th and 21^st Centuries. Hagenberg’s Illuminare has quickly gained a place in the modern choral repertoire, set to a compilation of sacred and poetic text in Latin and English, the piece draws on themes of light overcoming darkness. Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem (“Grant us peace”) is a profound plea for peace in a troubled world, setting texts from the Latin Mass alongside poetry by Walt Whitman reflecting on the horrors of war and the hope for reconciliation.
