UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — It was a busy week for the luxury real estate market on the Upper East Side, with eight deals closing over the $4 million mark, including five co-ops, two condos, and one townhouse, according to the latest data from the Olshan Report.

The most expensive home sold this week in all of Manhattan was a rare townhouse from the Gilded Age on East 63rd Street between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue that went for $39,500,000, the Olshan Report said.

The Beaux-Arts townhouse was built around 1901 by John H. Duncan — who built Grant's Tomb — for financier Elias Aisel.

The mansion was first listed for $65 million two years ago and then sold for $34.5 million at a bankruptcy auction, Olshan reported.

Inside, the six-story townhouse has eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, three powder rooms, 10 fireplaces (!), two underground levels, and an elevator. The 18,000-square-foot manor also features a swooping marble staircase, high ceilings and crown moldings.

It was previously the home of fashion designer Oleg Cassini, who died in 2006. His wife, Marianne Nestor, and her sister Peggy, took ownership of the house, but then were evicted following bankruptcy, Olshan reported.

One block away, a townhouse, also designed by Duncan, closed for $55 million the week before.
