New Korean Restaurant Set To Open On Upper East Side

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A new Korean restaurant is preparing to open on the Upper East Side after receiving support for its liquor license application from a Community Board 8 committee this week.

Bon Ga is expected to open at 408 East 64th St., between First and York avenues, according to James Lee, a representative for the restaurant.

Lee told Community Board 8 that the restaurant was aiming to open as soon as next week.

The restaurant, which will serve traditional Korean dishes, is seeking a beer and wine license and plans to operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Quiet recorded background music is also planned, Lee said.

Bon Ga will be snug, with 10 tables inside, along with 26 seats in an open-air backyard patio, which will close at 10 p.m.

Before Bon Ga, the space was Bayon Cambodian Bistro, a longstanding, Michelin-recognized Cambodian restaurant that closed in August after 45 years.

Bon Ga’s plans largely represent a continuation of the previous restaurant’s setup, Lee said.

“We’re not changing anything other than the type of food that’s being served from Cambodian to a Korean cuisine,” Lee said.
