Manhole Explosion Injures 1 On Upper East Side, FDNY Says

A manhole exploded Tuesday morning on East 73rd Street between Madison and Park avenues.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An underground explosion injured one person Tuesday morning on the Upper East Side, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

A manhole on East 73rd Street between Madison and Park Avenues exploded shortly before 8:30 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Firefighters responded to the scene and are waiting for Con Edison to aid in repairs to the manhole, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

One person was treated for injuries at the scene and was not been transported to a hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

The explosion cause minor property damage and traffic on East 73rd Street between Madison and Park avenues was closed, the NYPD's 19th Precinct announced on social media.

The cause of the manhole explosion is unknown, fire officials told Patch.
