Game On, Yorkville: A Board Game Cafe Is Opening This Spring

Coffee, community and board games of all sorts are on the menu at the new Upper East Side cafe.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Board game lovers have something new to look forward to this spring: Opening Move Cafe, a specialty coffee and board game cafe, is coming to the Upper East Side.

The cafe is set to open on East 87th Street between Second and Third avenues, according to the company.

Opening Move aims to create a welcoming neighborhood gathering spot centered on connection and community, describing itself as a potential "hidden gem" on its website.

The name reflects both the start of a board game and the beginning of a social connection, the company says.

The cafe will serve premium coffee and tea along with artisanal pastries and light bites. It is designed as a space where customers can either stop in briefly or settle in for longer visits.

“Stop by, or stay a while,” the owners write on the website.

Opening Move Cafe will occupy the ground floor of an apartment building at 208 E. 87th St., replacing a former convenience store, and will open in the spring. It will be the second board game cafe in the neighborhood, following Hex & Co. on First Avenue and 76th Street.

When the business announces an opening date, this article will be updated.
