New Upper East Side Gallery Brings Focus On Contemporary Art

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Already awash in art, the Upper East Side now has a new venue to add to its roster: Upsilon Gallery will open a flagship location in the neighborhood this week, focusing on contemporary and postwar art.

In business since 2014 as a publisher, Upsilon has also hosted periodic exhibitions at its Midtown office, plus its other locations in Miami and London. Its founder, Marcelo Zimmler, settled on the seven-story townhouse on East 67th Street as Upsilon searched for a permanent home.

"For their first brick and mortar location, Zimmler chose the Upper East Side, recognizing that the neighborhood is a true cornerstone for the art and design community," the gallery said in a news release.

"He wanted to create a contemporary space, providing a neutral stark white setting for the artwork on display and an approachable and friendly atmosphere for collectors and guests."

Upsilon will officially open Friday with an inaugural exhibition: "Kaleidoscope," featuring works by the multimedia artist Osvaldo Mariscotti.

Upsilon makes an effort to rediscover artists that have been "forgotten or overlooked within a historical scope," according to the gallery. It also aims to embrace new technologies that allow visitors to experience art "through a new and dynamic lens."

The Mariscotti exhibition runs through April 16, featuring oil paintings, bronze sculpture and more.

Upsilon Gallery is located at 23 East 67th St., just west of Madison Avenue. It will be open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
