Opening Date Set For New Restaurant At Sotheby's Flagship
The restaurant space is designed and run by the same team behind La Mercerie in SoHo.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Marcel, the highly anticipated continental restaurant coming to Sotheby's new flagship location at the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue and East 75th Street, has officially set an opening date.
The new restaurant, named for Marcel Breuer, the architect of the landmarked building, will open on April 16, and reservations are live now on Resy.
The French-leaning continental restaurant is designed by the team behind La Mercerie, which serves inventive French food in SoHo.

The menu, which is still mostly under wraps, features a "Que Voulez-vous?" section, which allows diners to choose between filet, onglet, côte de boeuf, turbot or salmon, prepared to order with a selection of six different sauces.
On the dessert menu, there's a succulent-looking Baba au rhum, topped with fresh whipped cream and a cherry.

The new restaurant will be owned and designed by Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer, who also own an architecture and design firm called Roman and Williams, Patch previously reported.
The team has also designed the Boom Boom Room, Le Coucou and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's British Galleries — all famous New York City establishments known for cinematic interiors. The restaurant at Sotheby's will be the duo's second proprietary establishment.
The Breuer Building, designed and completed by Marcel Breuer to look like an upside-down ziggurat for the Whitney in 1966, features a brutalist concrete and steel exterior hovering above a glass ground floor, which sharply contrasts against the district's 19th-century townhouses.
The new restaurant will feature paintings from Sotheby's collection, as well as sculptures, rare jewelry and more, the restaurant shared on its Instagram.
The Breuer building is located at 945 Madison Ave.
