UES Woman Tries To Stab Health Aide To Death, Court Records Show

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The 66-year-old woman charged with the stabbing of a 54-year-old home health aide in her Upper East Side apartment has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, according to court records.

According to the NYPD, the 54-year-old home health aide was stabbed while inside an apartment in 210 East 73rd St., between Second and Third avenues, mid-day on Saturday.

The defendant, Barbara Salberg, has dementia and confused the home health aide for a different attendant, who she believes stole from her, according to a report from the New York Daily News. The victim had made pancakes for Salberg and served the meal with a fork and knife shortly before the stabbing, the New York Daily News reported.

Cops, who arrived at 12:39 p.m., found the victim with a stab wound in her stomach inside the building, police said.

Medics rushed the woman to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.

In addition to attempted murder in the second degree, Salberg has been charged with attempted first-degree assault with a weapon, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to court records.

Salberg is due back in court on Aug. 17, court records show.
