A UWS French Pastry Shop Is Opening A Yorkville Outpost

The bakery is known for its authentic and whimsical cream puffs.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A Manhattan-based French pastry shop known for its authentic and whimsical cream puffs is heading to the Upper East Side this February.

Barachou, a French cream puff and pastry shop founded in 2019 on the Upper West Side, has signed a lease for a new location at 354 E. 81st St. near First Avenue, expanding its footprint into Yorkville, real estate agents from Isa Realty Group, who facilitated the transaction, told Patch.

The shop is best known for its choux à la crème — delicate cream puffs filled with rotating seasonal flavors — as well as its selection of cakes, tartes and viennoiseries.

"Barachou has built a devoted customer base through its craftsmanship and authentic take on French pastry," Dylan McCullough of Isa Realty Group told Patch.

Founded by Rebecca Tison, Barachou quickly built a loyal following after opening its first location, with all items prepared fresh daily using premium ingredients and a playful approach to French baking.

The new storefront will feature Barachou’s signature cozy, Parisian-inspired aesthetic, blending classic French pastry traditions with a modern New York sensibility. This will be Barachou's third location, following the bakery that opened in the West Village in 2022.
