Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity Presents J.S. Bach’s Magnificat BWV 243

Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity Presents J.S. Bach’s Magnificat BWV 243

Event Details

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3 W 65th St, New York, NY, 10023

Former Artistic Director of Netherlands Bach Society Shunske Sato joins Bach Vespers as the stirring conclusion to his two-week New York residency in partnership with Gotham Early Music Scene, Music Before 1800 and The Juilliard School. Sato, regularly featured as soloist and conductor with orchestras around the world, leads the Bach Vespers Choir and Orchestra's largest ensemble of the 58th season in the annual presentation of the Magnificat.‍

Additional repertoire will include Praeludium in C Major by Dieterich Buxtehude, Jerusalem Gaudes by Melchior Vulpius and Praeludium in F Major by Dieterich Buxtehude.

The presentation of J.S. Bach’s Magnificat is generously supported by Robert Busch and Richard Dematteis in memory of their parents.

Holy Trinity presents Bach for the Big Apple in a truly unique environment— Bach cantatas by candlelight in the format of a centuries-old Lutheran service of evening prayer. Join us to celebrate our artists' longstanding commitment to this series and witness their extraordinary gifts that create music and community in our magnificent space.

Bach Vespers is guided by the vision and steadfast presence of the Reverend Timothy Weisman, Pastor, Robby Meese, Director and Austin Philemon, organist. Reverend Weisman’s historically informed liturgy and sermons frame the music selections and Mr. Philemon’s mastery of the Fritts Opus 16 organ offers a bold and dynamic interpretation of J.S. Bach’s greatest works for keyboard.

Holy Trinity is located at 3 West 65th Street and Central Park West, an easy walk for West Side residents. Doors open at 4:30 PM. Also available to view online. A freewill offering will be taken. Call (212) 877-6815 for additional information.
