Deliver joy and holiday cheer to older adults through DOROT’s Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery!

As a Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery volunteer, you can make a meaningful connection with an older neighbor through a social visit or phone call and a holiday care package. While holidays can increase feelings of loneliness or isolation, volunteering for Package Delivery creates shared connections and community.

The program is called Package Delivery, but we like to say that it’s really "not about the package." It’s about the connections you make-for volunteers and package recipients alike.

*Please note: This year's Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery is taking place on various days, due to the timing of the holiday.

What Else to Know?

Who Can Volunteer? DOROT welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds, and identities as both volunteers and older adult participants. Package Delivery volunteers need to be at least 18 years old.

Can We Volunteer as a Family? Families with children age 10 and older are welcome to volunteer together.

Time Commitment: One-time commitment of about 90 minutes.

Requirements: Volunteers over the age of 18 must have a valid, US government-issued photo ID and watch a short online orientation.

Volunteer in Manhattan

Location: Upper West Side at DOROT (171 W. 85th Street) & East Side at Moise Safra Center (130 E. 82nd Street, between Lexington and Park Avenue)

Date & Time: Wednesday, September 16, 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Here’s How it Works:

1. Register!
2. Pick up a package and get matched with an older adult.
3. Deliver the package to the home of an older adult.
4. Connect for a social visit or friendly phone call.

Volunteer in Westchester

Location: DOROT Westchester (925 Westchester Avenue, Suite 200)

Date & Time: Tuesday, September 15 – Sunday, September 20

Here’s How it Works:

1. Register!
2. Pick up a package between 9/15 – 9/17 and get matched with an older adult.
3. Call to schedule a mutually convenient time to deliver the package between 9/15 – 9/20.
4. Stay for a visit and deliver the package on your scheduled date.
