Mid-Morning Bank Robbery Fails On The Upper West Side: Police

A man passed a bank teller a note with the words, "I have a gun. I want a handful of 100s fast, nobody gets hurt," according to police.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a bank Tuesday morning on the Upper West Side.

A man walked into a Wells Fargo at 2039 Broadway around 10:45 a.m., between West 71st and 72nd Streets, and approached a bank teller, before passing the employee a note, according to police.

Police told Patch that the note said, "I have a gun. I want a handful of $100s fast, nobody gets hurt — don't walk away or play games."

The man proceeded to put his hand inside his hoodie's pocket and simulate that he was holding a gun, police said. However, it was never clear if he had the gun or not, police added.

The attempted bank robber then fled the Wells Fargo before he received any money, according to police.

An NYPD search is underway for the man.

The bank robbery related incident wasn't the only one on the Upper West Side Tuesday morning.

According to the West Side Rag, at around 10 a.m. a man robbed a Citibank at 170 West 72nd Street — successfully getting away with $500.

The two banks are a two-minute walk from one another.

Police however made no indication that the two robbery attempts were connected.
