Mount Sinai Ranked 15th Best Hospital in the Country
U.S. News and World Report named Mount Sinai to its hospitals "honor roll." The hospital has a location in Morningside Heights.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — U.S. News and World Report on Tuesday released its list of the best hospitals in the country, giving one Morningside Heights health care institution high marks. Mount Sinai, which operates St. Luke's hospital in Morningside Heights was named to the study's "honor roll," signifying its status as one of the 20 best hospitals in the United States.
Mount Sinai was named the 15th best hospital in the United States by the report.

Mount Sinai was ranked nationally in more than 10 of 16 medical specialties and received top five ranking in one speciality: geriatrics. The hospital was also given a high performing grade in eight of nine ranked medical procedures. The only average grade the hospital received was for knee replacement procedures.

Only two one other hospitals in New York City made the honor roll, NYU Langone Medical Center in Midtown and New York Presbyterian, which has locations on the Upper East Side and Washington Heights.
To compile the rankings, U.S. News and World Report used several different objective measurements such as patient survival, number of patients and staffing numbers. The publication also used survey data from qualified physicians, who were asked to name the top five hospitals in their specialty.

VA and military hospitals were not included, the publication said, because the federal government is reluctant to release performance data from those hospitals. Procedures and conditions that were considered included hip replacement and heart failure.
Hospitals were also ranked according to these 16 specialties:
- Cancer
- Cardiology and heart surgery
- Diabetes and endocrinology
- Ear, nose and throat
- Gastroenterology and GI surgery
- Geriatrics
- Gynecology
- Nephrology
- Neurology and neurosurgery
- Orthopedics
- Pulmonology
- Urology
- Ophthalmology
- Psychiatry
- Rehabilitation
- Rheumatology
