Over 130 Firefighters Called To Upper West Side Blaze: FDNY

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Firefighters successfully controlled a blaze Tuesday that started around 10:45 a.m. on the Upper West Side, according to the FDNY.

The three-alarm fire was within a five-story residential building at 54 West 75th Street, not far from the American Museum of Natural History.

There were 138 firefighters at the address, according to the FDNY.

Firefighters arrived at the Upper West Side building to find flames on the first floor of the property that were traveling up through the walls, according to Deputy Chief Jim Coyne.

Coyne said the blaze was under control by noon.

The FDNY reported two non-life-threatening injuries to firefighters and no injuries to any residents of the building.

The building fire at West 75th Street comes five days after 12 people were hurt in a fire that broke out on the third floor of a building at 98 Riverside Drive, near West 82nd Street.

How the fire started is currently under investigation.
