Upper West Side Lawyer Arrested in Connecticut for Bank Robbery

The woman was also a suspect in a failed bank robbery on the Upper West Side last week.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A woman suspected in a failed bank robbery on the Upper West Side last week has been arrested for robbing a bank in Connecticut, police said.

Greenwich Police responded to a bank robbery at Wells Fargo Bank on West Putnam Avenue Aug. 4 around 3:24 p.m., said Lt. Kraig Gray, police spokesman.

"A description of the suspect and her vehicle was broadcast to area officers," Gray said. "The suspect reportedly provided a note to the bank teller demanding money and stating that she had a weapon and the suspect left the scene with money stolen from the bank."

The suspect, Meighan Marie McSherry, 46, is also accused of trying to rob a Chase bank on the 2200 block of Broadway on Tuesday, August 2. McSherry worked as a Legal Aid lawyer in the Bronx and lived in the Upper West Side building The Bancroft before falling on hard times, reported the Daily News.

McSherry's vehicle was located on in Greenwich on East Putnam Avenue near Church Street, not far from the bank. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the operator, who was identified by witnesses. Evidence of the robbery was also found in the vehicle, Gray said.
