Upper West Side Slashing Sends Man To The Hospital, Cops Say

UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — A man was sent to the hospital and a woman arrested after a slashing on West 61st Street on Wednesday night, police said.

A 66-year-old man told police that a woman he had been arguing with took out a knife and slashed him across the hand just before 9 p.m. near West 61st Street and West End Avenue, police said.

The man was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries to his hand, police said.

The woman, 71-year-old Valida Henry, was arrested and charged with menacing, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Henry lives on the corner of West 61st Street and West End Avenue, records show.

The incident comes just a few days after another crime involving a knife in the neighborhood.

In that incident, Tracy McCarter was charged with murder for the fatal stabbing of a 48-year-old man inside an Amsterdam Avenue apartment.

The man was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. McCarter was taken into custody for the slaying shortly after.
